Hi there
A friend of mine has a couple of wolverines hitting his marten trapline. I hope to get a nice hide from him this winter, and get a full mount done eventually. Does it matter if the hide is "cased", or should it be done like a bear hide for the eventual full mount?

Tanneries charge more for case skinned specimens. The skin would need to be cut to go on a form anyways, depending on the pose you choose. If you have a pose in mind, it may affect how you want to skin it, dorsal or ventral incision. If you have a taxidermist you are going to use, you may seek his or her advice on how they would like you to skin it .

Best place for the skin, after tanning, is in a freezer, until you are ready to have it mounted.

Kind Regards,
Mary

I hope you get one. They are awesome animals. My taxidermist, Bob Wilkins up in Cameron, Texas, lived in Alaska for a while. He has one done in a full-body mount over the door to his office/showroom.

I prefer case skinned or dorsal skinned on all lifesized mounts.

Wolverines mount up very well using case skinned hides. I just finished one that was case skinned using McKenzies cast lip system form. I cut the front legs off the form in a wedge shape and inserted them in the skin prior to mounting.

Then I slid the rest of the form inside the skin and the legs locked into place. Sew up the ankle/anus/ankle incision, tail and your done.

Either way, ask YOUR taxidermist how they prefer it. I hate sewing, so the less I have to do the better!!

Hugh

Hello again
Spoke with another trapper who caught two recently, but not the combination of colouration and size that I'm looking for.
Could anyone who has a full mount wolverine, post pics and/or links to give me some ideas?

Thanks
P.S. It's -44 C here today, I think my tires are now square until it warms up.

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."
