Talked to my taxidermist today about mount of my Mtn goat; its at the tannery now. I had considered full body mount. However, in light of hit my investments have taken and cost($4,500), I decided the $795 for shoulder mount was more sensible. Also, I am squeezed for space. Besides, the $4,500 can be spent toward another hunt. My question is: what can I do with hide left over from the shoulder mount?; about half of the hide will be left, maybe a little bit less. Any suggestions?

It has a stark contrast with whatever you lay it out on and is really pretty when tanned, and always draws comments. Can steal a pinch or two when you need to tie flies for steelhead fishing. Smiler

It makes a nice display on the gun safe, too!

They do make great throws like Blank has it displayed. Leather backed pillows are attractive too.

Most clients tan the back 1/2 with no feet on it and make a rug with it. With padding and double color felt and hang it on the wall or whatever. But they are small. But remember that Mt. goat hair is hollow and it will shed if rubbed out too much. Let me tell you take your taxidermist is very pricey ! Have fun rotflmao

JMHO...Goat backhides do not make good rugs. They are too small and the hair is so long you will not see the border anyways.
That shoulder mount price is a very fair price for quality work.
How does that saying go "The bitter disappointment of looking daily at a poor quality mount will long outlast the moment of joy paying a cheap price". Smiler

The $795 sounds reasonable but $4500 for full body mount does sound a bit much for full body even with the habitat.

As mentioned, Goat hair will produce some of the best fishing flies known to mankind. They are deadly on Sauger/Walleye, Pike, Bass, Trout/Salmon and saltwater flats fishes. If you don't fish, cut the hide into equal rectangles; i.e., 4x8 inches and sell them. You should recover the tanning cost and then some. This hair can be dyed any color and there isn't a Smallmouth Bass alive that can resist.

Seems like that is what Mike Boyce was charging from Animal Artistry; don't know if it had any habitat included. To me that would be the best of the high end work. I have seen the prices from $600-900, or $1200-1800 depending if it was just a shoulder mount or a front half with legs on a rock base.
