I have a nice drake cinnamon teal and wood duck that I'd like to preserve. I know nothing of taxidermy for birds and would appreciate any input you all have regarding poses, who to have the work done by, and other considerations. Thanks in advance.

Without a doubt, the only guy that will ever do any of my birds as long as he is in business! Todd is very talented at what he does. If you send it to him, he personally does all of his Birdman birds. He also has a crew that sub-contracts many birds for other taxidermists.

BirdmanStudios

If you look at his gallery, click on standing mounts, #'s 8, 107, and 129 are my birds.

Good luck!

Thanks. He has some very nice work posted there. Some of his flying and standing mounts are simply amazing - makes me wish I had the hens to go along with the two drakes I have. I have some perusing to do...

I agree with Graybird. You can't go wrong with Todd, he's one of the best that isn't too far from you. Ship only with Fed Ex or UPS. Insulate well and use 2 day delivery or overnight delivery but I'd say with winter temps, your fine with 2 day shipping. Make sure you use the morning or noon delivery as evening could be past business hours. I spent 17 years doing this same thing, and I'd use him.

Well lo and behold, I really muddied the waters. On Sunday morning, I pulled a Scotch double on wood ducks and now have the aforementioned drake plus another pair (drake and hen). Might have to put off the cinnamon teal for a while and get creative with wood ducks. I've only seen five live ones in my life that I can recall.

Bird man is good You send your birds he takes no money
You are now on the list. When he get to you he will call
You now have to pay for the birds he gives you 2 chances to pay
Then he will throw your bids away
He will not hold them. I know from first hand experience
He don't have the room to store birds.

Birman is good, however he is running a 2 plus year backlog from what I was recently told.

My personal choice would be shane smith, his quality is unbelievably good, and he has a much more reasonable turn around.

He also has an "express service" which is a 90 day guaranteed turn around, for a few bucks more http://www.waterfowler.net/Art.../express_pricing.php
