I got my nontypical whitetail buck back from the taxidermist last week. Killed this one opening day of bow season last year, October 15, 2013, on my farm in Madison County, Alabama. The buck scores 170 4/8 Pope & Young, which does not count the 7 inch drop tine which broke off when he fell after a 60 yard death run. Gross score, counting the drop tine is 189.
Mounted by Bob Rodgers, Cave Spring Taxidermy.

Wow, helluva whitetail!

He looks very regal. I think it would look very nice if you took a nice big doe and put her up there next to him.

Isn't that the "Black Belt" that runs through Alabama and Louisiana, that grows monster bucks?

Nicely done over the top buck. Wow. Did you hang him on a scale? Just curious on the body size.

I am actually north of the Blackbelt region, which runs across the middle of south Alabama. I am just south of the Tennessee state line. The area around me has a lot of crops (soybeans, corn, wheat) and residential developments are springing up everywhere. This development has cut down the amount of rifle hunting in a lot of areas and as a result the deer are getting to grow older, thus bigger.

I did not weigh the buck, but here are a couple of trail cam photos to show the body size. One is of him in velvet and the other was taken a week before he met my arrow.
