Here's some stuff I thought you guys would like to see. They were mounted in 1928. On the back of the grants it has a tag that says record bood grants gazelle, 1928 Aitken collection. They came from the Newport Clambake Club in Rhode Island, my home state. Aitken was a member through the 20's and 30's. Apparently he went through a divorce and his wife got the mounts and donated them to the clube in spite of him. They've been their ever since. They had 80 years of dust on them!!! The ears are in the worst shape and very brittle, but overall, I think the taxidermy was unbelievable for the time. Hardly any drumming what so-ever. The impala is in the worst shape. His horns measure 25 1/2 inches! I believe their is a hunters antelope, a beisa oryx, and a fringe-eared oryx. At least that's what I found out on taxi.net. The buffalo is my favorite. Enjoy!

Am I the only one who thinks the cape buff looks like Andy Rooney from 60 minutes?
Big Grin

They are very well done for the period they represent.

LOL Rick. I was thinking the buff looked like my Granddad dipping snuff with his false teeth soaking.

Actualy, looks like my piano teacher from grade school. That woman had to have been 70+ and never smiled! She kept time with pencil tapping on the piano and wasn't afraid to rap it on your fingers if you missed a note.

Thanks for posting the pics, Ryan. Our taxidermy historian, John Janelli, would love to see these.

How big is that buff? Looks sorta smallish, maybe 35-36". What's your guess?

Cheers,
Andy
