This is truly amazing to me. I am always fascinated by a good taxidermists artistic ability to make a beautiful mount out of a hide that is anything but beautiful coming back from the tannery. "Conservation through Hunting"

That is pretty damn amazing. I would guessed that the mount was a total loss. Mike

Ok, beautiful mount. My question is: is that the same skin? OR another cape?? I had a 184 3/8 muley buck remounted that my uncle killed back in '1946 that had sun bleached & rotted the ears, lips n nose off, one eye was white, skin almost white on one side etc. Grandkids were going to trash it. I knew the rack was just too great to throw out and asked for & got it. Swapped my smaller buck cape for cape & had it remounted. Came out beautiful too. That's a fine job, be proud of your work. Really, to me, the result is quite miraculous. Unfortunately due to others mishandling the cape for so many years not only was it nasty looking but the mane fell out. ~Ann

Ann, I have been wondering about your kudu. I wanted to ask, but bit my tongue because I know that it was a sore subject. I would sure like to hear the story behind getting your kudu back. I think that your kudu might be the best trophy taken by an AR member. Jason "You're not hard-core, unless you live hard-core." _______________________ Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt. Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure. -Jason Brown

I may come in for a re-finish of myself. I'm starting to look like the "before" photos of the kudu cape. Amazing rescue work. ______________________________ "Truth is the daughter of time." Francis Bacon

My kudu and several other trophies were simply not worked up by a former AR member who I trusted to do the work. I spent a few years trying to get him to return my capes. I did get everything back from him except a very nice black bear I arrowed on an Idaho wilderness hunt. Actually my best bear ever. He says he lost it. I have had a lot of trouble with taxidermists. Some of my stuff is now over ten years old and still not mounted. It took me years to force slimeball taxidermists to return my items. Not all were recovered, my only plains zebra is a loss as well. Many of my mounts were paid in full and these charlitans went out of business. I've been pretty gun shy since. Dennis has done very well by me. I just don't have the money to have all of my mounts done now so they get finished piecemeal, when I have the funds. Dennis is itching to do my leopard, hopefully someday! ~Ann

I hear you there. I had a taxidermist that was sponsoring my television show. He agreed to do some taxidermy work in exchange for the promotion I gave him. He has (had?) my first black bear hide/skull, a bison skull and the cape for a VERY good whitetail! He was to make a rug from the bear, clean the skulls from the bear and the bison for Euro mounts and make a shoulder mount of the whitetail. He's since gone out of business, moved someplace out west and the only thing I have is a bison hide tanned and the rack from my whitetail. Believe me Ann, I feel your pain...
