Great photo. I've got a pheasant from KS sitting in the freezer, that I want to do much the same way. It's got a lighter almost piebald coloration, and the plan is to have the pose "squatting" a bit more on a shorter fencepost. Your photo is perfect for showing to my taxidermist! Many thanks!

Now get out there and kill something else. We've got a responsibility to our taxidermist's children to see to it they get a good college education!

I think I may take him back and buy a hen and have her mounted at the base of the post. I think it would add even more to the mount. Plus, I think I would rather have it as a wall mount rather then a desk top mount. However, it does fill a void in my office.
