Your idea on the wood bases was pretty cool George.
I'm Sure they will look nice once complete at the base of the tusks.

I am still thinking of what to do with the finishing on the bottom of the tusks.I was thinking ele hide or something like straw or grass.

I put a 1 1/2" strip of zebra hide around the base of mine. The wooden bases have a framed cut out in them in the shape of Africa and the cut out is covered in zebra hide.
