This morning I was awoken to the sound of, "Honey, we have a problem there is water in the basement." Needless to say, it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

In the end, only one mount my blue wildebeest got any water on it. I would guess the water was not more then a 1/4" probably closer to 1/8" on the mount as the mount was laying on it's back on the floor. The water came from the irrigation system, which malfunctioned and probably was not there longer then about 3-4 hours max. I have a fan on the mount trying to dry the back as quick as possible. THe only visible thing I can tell is the glue that held the felt backing on has come loose at about 50%.

My question is, what are other things I need to do or keep my eye on in the future?

Thanks for the help!!

If there are other mounts hanging on the walls in the basement, remove them. They can trap moisure against the wall and then you will have mold. Make sure everything in the basement is dry before you re-hang any mounts. Use one or two dehumidifiers and fans to help dry out the space. Sounds like your mount that got wet should be okay. Make sure the skin has not pulled away from the form where it got wet.

Thanks Grafton! At the moment the basement is unfinished and there were no mounts hung. I used a shop vac and sucked up as much of the water as possible. Then took every fan we own and have them running right now. Looks like things are drying out pretty fast and should be greater then 90% dry by morning. I might go ahead and move the others upstairs until the entire things is dry.

Thanks for the help/suggestions.

As Grafton says, watch closely, very closely as your Wildbeast dries. The back skin may begin to warp upon dying. If you catch this in time, you can screw a piece of plywood (that is larger than the back of the form) onto the back board. A couple of screws should do it, but you want it tight to ensure the skin on the back of the form dries flat again. Leave it attached for a couple of days then take the plywood off and inspect for warping. Leaving it on could lead to mold forming. I would avoid leaving any mounts in the basement until it's finished and central heat & air is installed or a dehumidifier is in use. Good luck, David
