I will be getting some coyotes here next month (keeping fingers crossed) and hopefully my first bobcat. What I want to know is how I can go about drying them or whatever I need to do at home to be able to keep the hide. Tanning it is ok to if it is something I can do myself.
So what are my options as far as processes and how do I go about doing them?
I've "preserved" a deer skin, and some other smaller stuff by just doing a real good job defleshing and salting. Mind you they turn out hard. Would be a waste of a nice fur. But you can keep them like that for a long time. That deer skin had been around for a few years, until I threw it out when moving to CDN. I used it for training purposes.
defleshing and salting will work, but if you prefer to have the hide soft you can get all the supplies you need from vandykes taxidermy supply,I think they have videos to show you how to do it.you can salt the hide and keep it in the freezer until your ready to tan it. good luck on what ever method you choose.
