Water Buffalo Mount

I have a nice shoulder mounted Asian Water buffalo from Australia. The problem is that it's huge. I'd really like to down-size the mount, but I asked a taxidermist, and he said that once it's been mounted, you can't take the cape off and remount it. Is that correct? Are there any other options for me? Thanks for your help.

If it's a fairly recent mount, it can be re-done. But the quality of the tanning might be an issue.

Thanks. If I take it to the taxidermist, and they can't remount it, could they take the horns off?
