GREAT FALLS — State wildlife officials say that a grizzly bear was shot after it charged a man between Condon and Seeley Lake in the Swan Valley earlier this week.

The man heard noises outside his residence and "disturbances" with his livestock and dogs on the night of Tuesday, June 3, according to Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks.

He walked outside to check on his animals and the bear charged at him.

I hiked the Bob from Hungry Horse Lake to Seely Lake in 1979 Had just gotten over a bad fall off a roof and wanted to see how it was going to go. Once I was three days in the animals including grizzlies acted like they hadn't seen a human before. Had a close call with a grizzly while fishing in the South Fork of the Flathead river Eventually he chased me out of my campsite.

Regards,

Chuck

I made 6 trips or so into the BOB in the late 90's into the 2000's.

Had some fantasied fishing on the south fork saw grizzly tracks every trip.

A couple bears were shot by others during that time period.

We were always armed.

Never had any trouble.

Great country.

It is my understanding the G bear population in that area has just boomed.

There was a rock out cropping over looking a deep pool at the junction of black bear creek and the south fork.

Standing on the rock cast a dry fly.

It was great fun to see the trout come out of the deep and take the fly.

My son was about 10 when he hooked a big bull trout in the 30 inch plus range. Just up river. His eyes were huge when it threw the hook right in front of him.
