Having been to Africa a couple of times and using the African sections of this website to help me learn the ins and outs of hunting over there, my trips turned out perfect.

Now I am ready to go west here in the states, but I don't know where to go. I am hoping to start researching and getting good info from this site just like I did for Africa.

I am definitely interested in getting a nice pronghorn. But if I am going out from PA I want to hunt more to make the trip worth it. I am interested in adding at least 1 maybe 2 more animals to my hunt (bison or mule deer). I want to hunt where I can definitely get tags, and would prefer a guided hunt. I would bring my wife along so the place should be friendly to nonhunting guests. I also would probablly prefer a 1 on 1 hunt type hunt. I will want to get my animals mounted so I don't know if hunting in Canada makes it harder to get mounts shipped back.

Any general info would be appreciated. Would the US or Canada be better and why? In general what are some differences of hunting northern states/Canada vs. southern states? Are there big cost differences from one area to another? What animals mentioned make a good combo hunt and why?

Thanks for any help

I have friends in PA who have hunted in CO,NM & other western states w/o guides much cheaper.I spoke with friends in CA & decided to hunt in CO I didn't need a guide just went out locating mule deer.Saw Elk wasn't tagged for them.Wyoming has Antelope ,Mule Deer & Elk with reasonably priced tags.CO has over the counter elk tags as does Utah & Oregon.Request info from states. Some have already distributed their tags.

lengleng,

Sorry I can't help you with your question, where are you from in SW PA, though? That's where I'm from, Monessen, to be more specific.

Your too late to put in for most western big game, but WY should have some leftover Antelope tags and there are areas that offer extra Doe tags. One of my Outfitters may have a landowner tag for Elk in NM, but I'm not sure. Email me if you want his contact info. For next year you could put in for a number of species. My web site gives you an idea in the United States page.
Good hunting,
David

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

Thanks again for all of the info and PM's. I realize that I will be better served by hunting fall 09 and not this year. So I am thinking a Mule Deer - Pronghorn combo and quite possibly adding a Bison. I think I will put off the Mountain Lion for now.

montana has opportunities for all three species - i know of sime hunters who hunted the fort belknap reservation in blaine and phillips counties for buffalo, and of course there are unlimied opportunities for trophy mule deer and antelope.

i would suggest contacting the reservation for details on the buffalo hunt, and hunt off the reservation for the other two species. i say this simply because you can cover more area. to my knowledge, everyone who has hunted on the reservation has been satisfied with the opportunities.

I don't know if you would be satisfied with their Buffalo hunt. The buffalo that the tribe has is more livestock than anything else. I believe their prices are reasonable though. If you do contact them I would ask about antelope. They allow 70 non-members to hunt on the rez and they tend to fill up fast. We have thousands of speed goats on Fort Belknap and very very few of the locals hunt them. The deer population on the other hand is pretty hard hit each year and the elk are the same. If you want I can get the contact info for ya'.
