Here is a video of my elk; one of the guides with me filmed it before I shot it.

I passed on a ton of elk bigger than this one, some way bigger, but on the evening before the last day I elected to take this one. Kind of wish I would have rolled the dice one more time...

I wouldn't have had the self control on the opening bull.

Congrats on a very nice bull!!!

Thanks for your kind words.

This was the 3A/3C AZ early rifle season. The number of bulls you see is out of this world. You can do the same hunt on the nearby res for 18K plus a 3K trophy fee on a really big bull. I don't know if i can wait another 12 years to draw, so I might just buy that hunt.

The full moon really hammered us as well.

The bull you saw me pass was on the evening of the sixth day of a seven day hunt. I shot the one shown less than hour later.

I would advise any young hunter to pony up and buy an AZ license every year to accumulate pref points. Definitely worth the wait. Better than most African hunts i have been on.

In Jan I rolled a Cape buffalo that ran after i shot it. Looked just like that elk after he took one running. Wish i had a vid of that one...

This is the first hunt I had videoed; I wasn't really fond of it, but as Aaron told me, you don't even notice it. Wish i would have had my 2012 Tanz hunt filmed now.

This bull is more what you can expect:

Very nice! Just out of interest, which res are you referring to?

White Mtns; borders the hunting unit, and has far less hunts than the 40 given out by Game and Fish.

I would think if you really want a big elk and don't want to screw around, go with the res hunt. But if you are young with more time than money, put in NOW for the AZ pref points.
