I had a WTF moment last evening. I was flipping channels and on one of the 'hunting' networks there was some guy in a horrible hair BUN hunting in Hawaii going after domestic goat and sheep.

Can you tell it's been a long time since I tuned into such channels? Used to be heavy breathing fist pumping penned deer hunters, now 'man' buns!

Clearly the end of the world.

So Ann, Are you telling me my mantail is out?

At my age I just go with what I feel Like and for now until . . .

it is a mantail.

No, no buns except mantail tucked under a hat when using power tools( lathe etc.)

Gal across the street has a "part time boy friend" that wears a bun most of the time. Over 6' tall in late 40's. Looks plumb damned disgusting.

Then there's days he lets it down. Longer than
hers. He's a hoe building contractor too.

I'm so old I remember when us "cowboys" took a
long hair down in the school hallway and cut
his hair with our pocket knives.

Anyone else old enough to admit to that?

Thanks Ann, good for a laugh.

I have stopped watching all commercially available hunting shows.

To me, they are anything but hunting.

Generally it is nitwit who is only out to glorify himself.

Nothing to with actual hunting.

Makes fishing shows look like Best Picture!

Two shows I really like. Farming The Wild and Live to Hunt. The first is probably more of a cooking show. I enjoy seeing how the host cooks wild game. He is a chef and restaurateur in England.
The other hunts some incredible trophies, often helping others be successful.
No man buns....

Not complaining about men with long hair at all. Some are quite handsome with it. Braids, ponies, etc, simple flowing long hair- all fine. I think it is odd to see an American indian male with short hair. It's the 'bun' thing that is not cute. Way too feminine a look for a male.

I had a long ponytail until recently when my hair became so thin that it was ridiculous. I have to admit the man bun thing looks utterly silly to me and to a lot of people I know. Having said that I'm not about to gather up a posse to assault one of these man bun guys and cut his hair. I think if the length of someone's hair is so offensive to bring you to violence that you'd better look at your motivation.

Long, braided, comb-over, ponytail, pigtail, bun, spiked, baby-do etc are not for me but as long as you don't get your hair in my moose stew, I want you to have whatever you want.

People fought and died so we can have a choice.

Hunting shows? Don't watch them. I tried but it's not real to me.

The very first time I saw a creature with a nose ring and an ear ring, joined by a small chain, was in London, England.

I honestly had this almost unctrolable urge to yank the chain off him!

One of my software developers wears a man bun at times; I don't think it looks any more ridiculous than a ponytail. At the end of the day I would rather have a good developer who wears a ponytail and/or man bun than a tough looking short haired Marine look-alike who can't code.

But hey, while we are on the subject, nothing turns my stomach more than a fat woman showing her bare belly - what is that all about? Another one is a woman with a huge fat ass wearing tight pants - unless, of course, you are into fat asses in tight pants.

I guess I don't like buns on men or women, just personal taste. As far as long hair on men is concerned I had long hair in the late 60s through the 70s. I guided in the Bob Marshal and was a golden glove finalist in NYC at 16. Anyone who had as issue with it was welcome to take it up with me.

Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue.

What I have learned on AR, since 2001:
1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken.
2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps.
3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges.
4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down.
5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine.
6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle.
7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions.
8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA.
9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not.
10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact.
11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores.
12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence.
13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.

I dropped all the hunting channels many years ago - they raising my blood pressure almost as much as watching the news....

Funny thing is, I was at an Air B-&-B this past year that had all the hunting channels and when I tuned through them there weren't any epesodes I hadn't seen from years ago. I was amazed they're still repeating the same episodes. And I'm still shocked there is such a market of viewers wanting to watch people sit in a tree or blind waiting for game to walk by.

It's great that they get a few new people into shooting and hunting, but some of them sure show a bad side of the sports. As the hunting shows have become more common it seems like more and more of my hunting clients think a .223 is perfect for all big game hunting. And that they should all be attempting 700+ yard shots because, while they haven't practiced long range shooting and know almost nothing about their trajectories or wind drift, they have purchased most of the "right" equipment.

I remember hearing in the 1950s that television had a great future in educating the viewers.
Some years later, that cable TV could be commercial-free, since we were already paying the bill.
Sigh...
