one man say to me thatin the movies when a man wear body armor and when the 9 mm hit him he knock over.Then he said that if the animals were wearing body armor they will also be knock over.And if i shoot a elk in the shoulder whit a 577 Tyranosaur and a 750 grains Hawk bullet whit 0,35 ticket at 2500 f/s it would stop up fast in the animal and leave much energi.then i think the elk will knock over.

It is good that you ask these questions, keep doing so! However, tell your friend that in the movies a man wears a suit with a big letter S on the front and a red cape and can fly. In reality if you try to fly wearing nothing but a blue suit and a red cape you will not be able to do it. The same thing goes for big game animals.

Now the 577 seems to be quite capable of knocking over beings regardless which end of the rifle they are on, so I'll leave that one to the physics experts.

I've seen videos made by the manufacturers of body armor, that shows a guy shooting himself in the chest with all types of handguns. No, he doesn't fall down.

There is also a video of a man being shot in the chest with a 30-06 while wearing body armor reinforced with a metal plate.

Again, no falling down.

The perception you describeis so prevalent in society that it's frustrating to try to explain to some folks.

could it knock over a elk, maybe, depending on the circumstances. You want a specific answer to a over simplified question. People do cow tipping, and although the cow wieghs 1000 lbs, it doesn't take that much force to tip it over. The reason being it is top heavy, so you are using leverage and gravity to your advantage. Shooting and elk with body armour might tip it over for the same reason, but it won't throw it back. Once you used up all your leverage and gravity advantages, there is not enough energy to move the weight. If i blind fold you and make you stand at attention, if i were to give you a little push, you would fall over. The biggest reason is your not prepared for it, just like someone or something being shot. Leverage and gravity has a far greater affect then energy from a bullet to move weight.

For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Granted a bit sharper on the bullets end.

a 30-06 won't.

Overkill: Ask yourself this question: If the 400kg elk were shooting the .577, would the recoil knock the elk over? If the answer is no, then the elk would not be knocked over by being hit with the bullet (which, by definition, must have LESS momentum than the gun).

Any of you guys ever try to get a bull Elk into body armor? Seems like I read somewhere that those PETA people dressed deer in orange vests one season. Maybe they have some expertise at this.

Overkill, The bullet delivers it's energy in a fasion that partly hits, partly slices, and partly splatters. The energy is delivered to the target animal differently with each different cartidge and bullet selection and for that matter each shot angle on the animal(bone or just rib hit). It is very comlex. With one round put through the ribs the bullet may open only slightly, lose little energy and mostly slice through. On a slightly differnt shot the same bullet may hit a shoulder blade,back bone and another shoulder blade. On this example it may splatter some,slice some and do some old fashioned hitting.(Not very tecnical terms but I think you get my drift.)How much energy is given up as heat friction,fragmentation of the bullet etc is impossible to calculate. It can not just be said that if you hit an elk with a cartridge with 2 tons of energy it is the same as hitting it with a truck that weighs 2 tons. If you need the elk to drop over now, hit it in the spine with an adequate cartridge. It will fall right over. Good hunting. "D"
