I like to pull the trigger on: 17 Remington 6MM Remington 270 Winchester 300 Savage 35 Whelen Keep in mind that the 6MM is really worth 2 votes here!

1. 7mm Rem Mag 2. 308 win 3. 338-378Wby Mag 4. 375 H&H 5. 458 Lott Those are my favorites. The 338-378 is the most impressive but also the most finicky. The 308 is just a joy in every rifle there is and the 7 mag gets it all done without beating you up. The 458 Lott is terribly versitile and a joy to work with. But if I could only have one round for the rest of my days, it would be Holland and Holland's grand old 375. Joe

What the hell do you want to shoot with a 300 savage? by the time it's dead all the skin will be off your knuckles and on the lever of your model #99

I must have an extra smooth Savage 99. I have yet to ever loose any skin off my knuckles shooting it. Sure have seen my father drop a pile of whitetails with one shot from his.

9.3x62, I will go back and read all of the posts after I do this. I suspect that the rounds will tend to lean towards those rounds most advantageous to the poster's local game animals. I know that mine will. 22.250 6.5 Rem mag (24" bbl) 300 Weatherby 338 Win mag 416 Rem Best, bhtr

Bakes, After looking over the lists, yours seem to be the closest to my list. (With the exception to the .22 cal) Would love to have you post a list of the critters you would take with each round. I never get tired of hearing about Australia. It's still on my "to do" list! best, bhtr

Seems a good idea for the season: Aperitif - Domaine Chandon Sparkling Brut (champagne) Soup - Touriga Rose (lightly chilled) Entree - a superb chilled Sparking Shiraz ("Sparkling Burgundy") Mains - Old vine Shiraz (good show Mike - no merlot in your list ) Desert - a fine frontignac Auslese Afters - Italian freshly ground coffee and cognac or sambucca (black or white) with three coffee beans (for good luck) with Bolivar No. 2 Cubans. Rifles: .22 Magnum CZ .222 Remington .308 BLR .30-06 M98 .375 H&H Mag M98. Maybe a .450 when we get to know each other better.

5 isnt enough. Too many fine rounds left out in such a list. But I could possibly be content with; 22 lr 223 257 r 300 savage (no knuckle problems here, mine shoot cast boolits and make versatile back up rifles ) 8mm-06

1. 22 LR - 10,000 rounds a year from CZ 75 Kadet adapter and semi-auto carbines, just to stay sharp with #2. 2. 40 S&W - CZ 75 and Ruger P4 carbine. Security work and home defense. Handloads with Longshot powder duplicate the 10MM if you need it. 3. 12 GA - Gas, pump and double. What could be more fun than Sporting Clays or more tasty than Quail? 4. 300 WSM - Handloads only, cover 55 gr sabot 224s up to 220 gr RN...mice to moose. Duplicate 308 and 30-06 with fine accuracy...WSM case is insensitive to load density. 5. 375 RUM - the BIG Kahuna...most flexible of ALL big bores to reload...duplicate the 35 Whelen, 9.3X62, 9.3X64, 375 H&H with excellent accuracy, give up little to the 416s and 458s with 350 gr Woodleighs at 2650 fps. Its funny, but we seem to take the mighty 12 GA for granted. If your 2 mission in life were to eat and defend yourself and you were limited to one gun, what else could you reach for?

I'll have to go with Mike D on this one and say Richards Red beer Crown Royal and ginger Fat Bastard Shiraz Glenn Livet Drambuie (for after supper digestion) As to rounds of ammunition I'd go with 22lr (of course) 20 guage 204 ruger (haven't got one but need a varmint gun) 300 wm 444 marlin That pretty well takes care of longe range, heavy bush, small and big. I'd want my 12 guage if I visit the prairies but that's just about perfect for Prince George B.C. Bellhender

I started as a combat pistol shooter, so my first favorite round must be: .45 ACP Among revolver rounds (also for pistol cartridge carbines), my developing favorite seems to be: .45 Colt I'm not much of a shotgunner, so none of those apply. In terms of rifle rounds, I'd have to pick these three to round out the list of my five favorite rounds: .260 Rem .308 Win 9.3x62
