Anywhere a caribou migration comes through, you will see half dozen wolves or more a day if you just stay put at one good crossing. Wolves follow the caribou. I'm talking about the Taylor Highway from Tok to Eagle , Alaska. Good place is down at Jack Wade (25-30 miles north of Chicken, Ak). The caribou move back & forth across the road, groups of 75-100. I have seen as many as 6000 stretched out 5 feet apart for miles across the valleys up on Polly Summit. Wolves real active all morning till about 11 and again in late afternoon till dark. Locals shoot lots of bou along the road and wolves & bear feast on the gut piles. We have also shot grizz there cleaning up gut piles, especially when snow starts to melt in spring. I know one local guy who got 40 some in snares in that area. We have way too many wolves and a fed govt that wants the moose & caribou extinct.

I've never tried the Foxpro out down there, as you see those dang wolves easy enough when there are bou around. My son had a nice wolf come in to his bear station couple weeks back while he was using foxpro; but I've never had much luck with calling the bigger wolves in. Mt son even has called young dumb wolves in at school bus stop late august/early sept with mouth squeeler, but that was a 60 lb this years pup that had been hanging around people a few weeks.

That place near Jack Wade can be driven to in Oct/Nov with 4X4 have chains in case. Sit right along road glassing up hillsides of small spruce. You probably couldn't shoot a caribou at that time of year as a non-res, but I'm sure F&G would thank you for shooting a dang wolf.

I always shoot at wolves from boat along yukon, just never hit any. Catch them walking the shoreline looking for dead salmon. It awful hard holding crosshairs at wolf 300 yards away looking at you in current with idiots moving around in the boat.

Too many wolves in Alaska

Zhurh hit the nail on the head. My Outfitter doesn't charge for Wolf while hunters are chasing game. I think you can take up to 5 in his area.
Good hunting,
David

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."
