Reading this forum, gun & hunting mags make me wonder if I could make a go of it where ever the location of the moment is. I haved lived all over the western USA, and prefer it here. I haven't been to Africa, but the hunting has to make it pretty desirable place to be. I live in Colorado now and I like it alot. Any of the western states is 500 miles or less, which opens alot of hunting opportunity, but with the growth we have experienced the last 10 years it's not what it once was. Wyoming would be great but I need to be near a major airport, and I can't stand the wind blowing 25 knots all day long. Guess I'll stay here for awhile. LW

I really like the idea of living in Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, or Utah, but unless we get control of our southern border, it's just a matter of time before all those states are buried in a flood of illegal aliens.
Maybe SE Montana or NE Wyoming...

LW I can understand what you are saying.My family and I live just east of Cody, WY.I am writing to you from Boston, Mass. We are here working. I have to agree the west is truely beautiful. We have traveled extensively and always look very forward to returning back to Wyoming. If you are interested in Wyoming, I know Billings airport is only 2 hours from Cody. My limitation is money. I live in central Connecticut. In this small populated state we can hunt deer with rifles and the limit is 2 and up to 5 with the muzzleloader and bow. I went hunting small game Saturday just up the road from my house with my buddy. I have a permit to carry concealed and the hunting lic. here is $10.
The problem is that I have spread my self out with a large sailboat, a hunting camp in Vermont and a high performance sports car. There is no money left for a trip to "Africa". I don't even read that section.
If I could figure out how to mount skies on my Harley Alaska would really be calling my name. So I think I will stay right here in centeral MT. I spent all my younger years moving around every two years max. I tired of it. Home is where you make it. The money here sucks, but the veiw, and game numbers make up for it.
Oh Ya George S To late on the ilegal thing. I sure ruffled some feathers down there(used to live in Pheonix) When I voiced my opinion on making Spanish the legal dialect of AZ. Curtis, Wisconsin is turning more into a tax hell state than ever before. Liberalism from Milwaukee and Madison metro areas have completely ruined this state. Should change the name of this state to Rules and Regulations R Us.

Dont come to Alaska. Because by the time you get here there may not be any SPORT HUNTING left. The Feds are in complete control of everthing now and are about to give it all away in the name of subsistance. It does not matter that the state consitution says game is for all. Alaskan looing to go south some day.
I, too, have lived throughout the western U.S. Here in central Wyoming, the wind does indeed blow, (this is how I justify hunting prairie dogs with big bores....), and there are no major anythings!
Alternatively, I have wide open space in all directions. If I want to take in the theatre or symphony, I can be in Denver in four hours. Four hours is a very good buffer zone between myself and the normal world.
Personal freedom still exists here. Game is still plentiful. Firearms and hunting are accepted and practiced by the majority.
As a youngster I always dreamed of living in Africa. Still do. But until then, I believe I'll be staying here for a while.

Having been many place and enjoyed most of them I will always live in Texas! Born a Texas and will die one too. Ever hear anyone say they wish they were born in New Jersey? Euprope was nice, love Africa, South America was neat too but..always glad to get home to TEXAS!
I live in Iowa. I used to hate it as a kid, but with elk in Colorado, my brother (and deer) in Pennsylvania, and a daughter, and grandkids (and deer) in Texas, I find I live in the bast place to be, which is a state that is a day or two drive to almost anywhere in the lower 48.
I've hunted Wyoming roughly 10 times. Although I've seen changes due to the California influx, the state remains sparsely populated and I love it. I recall driving from Buffalo to Jackson one evening, following a day of antelope hunting. It's about a 90 mile or so trip. I saw 2 cars and 2 trucks the entire way, all coming from the opposite direction. I could live out my days there and be quite content. Always much to do for the outdoorsman.
If I could live anywhere it would be back in Alaska. Lived there from Jan 96 to July 98. My heart has never left. It is not only the hunting & fishing I like. A lot of it is the people. It seems like people did not look down on others as a rule. I know there are exceptions to every rule. I returned to the lower 48 because I had to. Right now I am in SE WY. To me Wyoming is about the best place in the lower 48.
I currently live in Indiana, lots of personal freedom for an eastern state. Love Idaho and would move there in a heartbeat. If the politics change, I would take Kwa-Zulu Natal over everywhere.
there isnt any better place than right here in northern maine. great place for kids to grow. best snowsled trails in the us. largestmoose and bear pop. in the lower 48 and huge whitetail bucks. shot a 286lb in 98. not to populated and no hassles whatso ever.
The Yukon for the Sheep, Moose, and Bison or Zimababwe for the BIG stuff. I would move to Greece if I could just get a legal permit to hunt the Ibex on Crete on a regular basis!

I'd say avoid the mid-west. Where I live urban assault continues to take over all the land. Michigan is such an industrial based state it is forcing out the large properties (farms) in favor of postage stamp sized lots with half million dollar homes for all the non-hunting executives.
The urban developments are huge here. More and more non-hunters and non-conservationists are coming out of it. Most of them have so much money they have second homes in the traditional hunting wilderness of the north. Instead of hunters and fishermen they are snowmobilers, gamblers (lots of casinos), power boat riders (including the "personal watercraft") and ATV trail riders. I think you can see the drift.
The city is being brought to the country.
I can no longer ride my horse through the countryside. It's all gone. I have a 40 mile drive to work as it is and cannot move further. So that leaves waiting for retirement. When I retire I will move west.
Was born in Wyoming...emigrated to Alaska in "59"...have not hunted all I want to here...Definately not hunted all I want to in Wyoming...I'm torn like a 50 gallon garbage bag sail on the boat of indecision, in a class III hurricane! I say both!
There are many places that I have been that I like, paticularly Montana near Glacier. Wyoming near Jackson Hole. Parts of Colorado, Idaho and other similar areas. However, my home is in Oregon. I feel very fortunate to have woods, forest, desert and the beach a car ride away. I like it here and it will alway be my home. The hunting aint bad either.
Try Northeastern British Columbia, the area between Muncho Lake on Alaska Hwy in the north and Williston Lake in the south.It is often called North Americas Serengeti. There are 17 species of big game in BC and I have most of the in my back yard. I made my choice some time back.
I flew from Ft.Ware B.C(it's got to be the sh!thole of B.C.), up the trench to Watson Lk. Yukon in a super cub. We were flying at a high altitude for a cub and when I looked below, I could see these small brown specks on the valley floor. At first I thought they were horses or Elk. Because they were all the same color I thought they couldn't be horses, so I figured the brown spots were Elk. I seen hundreds of these brown spots for many miles. Then i figured they had to be rocks because there is no way there could be that many elk. I got the pilot to drop down and sure enough it was Elk. I guess you had to be there. It was amazing to see all that game.
Vasa; Any jobs around there??? I'd be there or somewhere in a minute. Ontario is gone to hell in a handbasket. It's now owned & operated by Liberal imported immigrants, who don't like guns, huntin, or shootin.

and then start over again!
