Guys, Have a ticket for Elk in Wyoming Area 98. Been working with the rifle ... a pre-64 Winchester M70. Has a Krieger stainless barrel, a double pilar bedded McMillan stock, a black teflon coat, a 3-9 x 40 Zeiss Conquest scope, and a nice 2 1/2 lb trigger. Weighs 8 1/2 pounds. Most accurate load so far is the factory Remington Express 250 gr Core-Lokt. Does 3" or so at 300 yards. Rifle is not as happy with Federal HE Nosler partitions, and I can't get great accuracy with the Barnes 225 X projectile. Either would be fine at 100 ... but minute of Elk is pretty big. Is the terminal performance of the 250 .338 Core-Lokt good enough for Elk? Thanks!

I've taken quite a few elk here in Colorado with a 180 grain "Core-lokt" bullet in my 30/06. It's a good bullet & you will not have a problem. Good Luck!

A friend of mine as a out of the box ruger mkII that just loves rem factory 250s shoots them into 3/4 in and has shot quite a few 300 yard groups with then under 3 in. Remington must be doing something right with them. Win. failsafes well not group under 2.5. out of it. He well be use then remingtons on elk this fall.
