mstarling338 Core-Lokts for Elk?
Guys,
Have a ticket for Elk in Wyoming Area 98.
Been working with the rifle ... a pre-64 Winchester M70. Has a Krieger stainless barrel, a double pilar bedded McMillan stock, a black teflon coat, a 3-9 x 40 Zeiss Conquest scope, and a nice 2 1/2 lb trigger. Weighs 8 1/2 pounds.
Most accurate load so far is the factory Remington Express 250 gr Core-Lokt. Does 3" or so at 300 yards.
Rifle is not as happy with Federal HE Nosler partitions, and I can't get great accuracy with the Barnes 225 X projectile. Either would be fine at 100 ... but minute of Elk is pretty big.
Is the terminal performance of the 250 .338 Core-Lokt good enough for Elk?
Thanks!

<Mark C. Kimmell>It will work fine. My first elk was shot with a 7mm Rem. mag. with factory Rem. Core-Lock 150gr. The shot was 350yds. on a cow elk. Shot behind front shoulder and found bullet on opposite shoulder just underneath the hide. Picture perfect mushrooming. Mark

Colorado BobI've taken quite a few elk here in Colorado with a 180 grain "Core-lokt" bullet in my 30/06. It's a good bullet & you will not have a problem. Good Luck!
