Well, I think there is a chance I may have convinced my wife to be on board with me going on a Grizzly Bear Hunt.Smiler
Please let me know if this is possible on a hunt. (I live in MD but drop my wife and kids off at my inlaws in SF, and then I go hunting from there. I made it work with a Jim Shockey Black bear hunt this past spring, and am doing it again for Mt. Loin hunt in December.)
I need to be able to get there from San Fransisco in a day.
I can only be gone for 5-6 days, and perfer to stay in a house or lodge, not a spike camp. I was thinking some where in BC.
Any ideas or thoughts if a hunt like this is possible, or do I wait till my boys (3 years and 21 months) get bigger and wait till I can be gone for a longer amount of time.
Thanks,
W.Smiler

Go to Alaska,it can be done in a day no problem. Check out Kelly Vrem(Rough and Ready Outfitters),fly into Anchorage and charter to spring bear area the same day weather permitting. He has great spring hunts and his bears are fantastic.Just my opinion. BC spring huts are great, I have done them too but you will get a better bear in AK.
Thanks
Wesley

If you cvan only be gone from the family 5-6 days total, and 2 are traveling, that is a short time to hunt a grizzly. They are expensive, and I would want to give myself 7 days at least to kill one, 10 would be better. that being said, I killed one on day 3 of my hunt last year. There is a smoking dela on the Discounted Hunts page right now, and Jake is a super hard working outfitter with a great track record...

If your in a hurry, stay home unless your very lucky. You want to be hunting for a min. of 10 days cuz it will not be all sunny weather in AK.You have to plan on dead days for the weather will ground you and etc...and something always gose bad...Been there and done it but it takes time. Alaska Airlines would be the only way to travel from SF. Just my opinion..... patriot

Weather will be the determining factor. You may not be able to fly to camp on your scheduled day. If all goes extremely well, you could be there on day 1 and take a bear in a few days. But it rarely goes as planned in Alaska. We hunt interior Grizzly on 10 day hunts, same days for our boat based Brown Bear hunts. Some guys get lucky and score within a few days, but sometimes it takes more than a week. I'd wait until I could schedule 10 days. Even if you get one in 2-3 days, it may take several days for the weather to clear to get you back to civilization.
Good hunting,
David

As others have said, it would not be impossible, but as a rule AK doesn't work like that.

Woodsie,

There is always somebody to provide what you ask for. Notice I didn't say what you want so be careful. My guy in AK offers a 10 day hunt(8 actual hunting days)for brown bear and its just about right in an area that has loads of bears. In the best case scenario that hunt will entail a total of 12 days. In my opinion limiting yourself to anything shorter is cheating yourself. Grrizzly/ brown bear hunts are expensive and you should allow yourself to get your money's worth. The same would apply to interior grizzlies. The weather could be better but the densities of bear is far less away from the coast.
