anybody got a shoulder mount that they can measure from the nose to the wall (generally about where the shoulder actually is). Want to get some reference points for a windage chart. Also, anybody know the distance between the front and rear legs on an antelope? Mike Legistine actu? Quid scripsi? Mike My one and only Antelope mount has his head up on alert (common with Antelope) and he is 20" from his nose to the end of my mount, it would actually be approx. 24" from tip of nose to a heart shot. I don't have a whole antelope here handy to measure but I've been around enough of them on the ground and see them every day so that I would say they are 36" front legs to back legs. Hope this helps. Good luck on your

36" front leg to back leg is a BIG goat. More like 26". Mike: For windage, you can't beat a reticle with either MOA of Mil hash marks. But if you don't have that, measure the subtension of horizontal plex window; on Leupold Vari-X III scopes that measures 9 inches at 300 yards when you crank up the power (except for the lowest and highest range scopes).

19" nose to the wall on an alert pose. 15" back to brisket. 11" wide at the wall if you were looking at him straight on. Probably a 130# buck when I shot him. Jeremy

21" nose to wall in alert position. 15" back to brisket. 12" straight on I also have to agree with Pancho in that 36" is one hell of a big goat and I'd say the average is under 30". Sorry I've been real busy with a big bathroom/kitchen this week Mike. I'll try to call you in the next couple days, as the heat is so bad we're going to have to take several days off to relax before we have heat stroke.

I have to revise my earlier guess, I looked at some antelope today and made a conscious judgement on the distance from front legs to back legs and I'm going to say somewhere around 30". If I see a dead one by the side of the road now I'm so damn curious I'm going to pull over and measure him. Now see what you did...I'll be wrestling with a dead goat for you guys.

I know you were wanting specific measurements, but I would sight the Rifle for 3" high at 100 yards.Elevation wise all you need to do is hold on hair out to 340 yards. This works on everything from 223 to 7 Mag.My favorite Goat cartridge was a 270 Win.There are plenty of windage charts available for different calibers, bullet weights and MZ V.I have killed them out to 440 yards with a 243 but most I have shot were within 200 yards. It aint rocket science, don`t over think it.OB

Not worried about drop, that's the easy part...I agree with OB, most bottle neck cartridges have similar trajectories out to 350 yards. It's wind, that I need to account for. Many people do not recognize that at 300 yards the crosshairs cover close to a 1" and that a 7 mph (which is not much) on many cartridges will drift the typical bullet ~4 inches at 300 yards...4 inches plus 1 inch is 5 inches. Assuming a perfect hold if you have any wind and don't account for you go from hitting the vitals to just a wound in muscle tissue or gut shot. Mike Legistine actu? Quid scripsi? Of all the goats my buddy and I have shot over the years in Wyoming I can't remember any that were over 200 yards because part of the fun for us is using the terrain that is there most of the time to close the distance if you take your time.

Mike, where are you going Pronghorn hunting? I love hunting them, they're just a very fun, laid back hunt. What state, unit, etc?
