I was hunting with CamomanJ in south Texas. I was specifically hoping to see a Nilgai as that was my primary quarry. I saw a flock of 13 jake turkeys, I saw lots of nice bucks the first two days, and even a bobcat. I saw sign of Nilgai, but I did not see any Nilgai.

I watched him chase does for about 45 minutes and then he couldn't decide where he wanted to go. He walked out of sight several times. I decided if he walked up one path and down another it would be a sign that his spirit was wanted elsewhere. He did thus and I sent his spirit there.

I waited until the last day of the hunt before taking this deer.

Rifle...a bit big for Whitetail--Win mod 70 Safari Express.375 H&H.

Load: 250gr North Fork on top of a max listed load of H335, 215 Primer new Remy case.

Distance 101yds. Bang-FLOP. No wiggles!

The previous day we witnessed a 9yr old on his first ever deer hunt really set the bar high by killing an 11pt buck. Great looking deer! His dad got a 10 pt the next day. Another great looking deer. Both of them had a forked tine in the same place. The owner said there have been a few sets of twins born out there.......

All in all a great hunt. I look forward to going back and hunting the elusive Nilgai soon.

I'll contact the owner and see if he will send me pics of the 11pt and the 10pt that were also taken so ya'll can see some of the other deer from this ranch.

Nice Hunt Report...

Good Luck on the Nilgai next time, where we'll get even w/ the opposite species.

First time for me to use this caliber on deer. I'd say it worked pretty well.

I was hunting out of an elevated blind. The very same blind that CamomanJ shot his Nilgai from the previous day.

The only thing that I found strange was the location of the exit. The animal was coming towards me, quartering to my right. I aimed just in front of the right shoulder and low as he took a step with the leg in the rearmost position. Bullet entered where I aimed. It came out behind the ribcage on left side making a lung shot. The only thing I can figure is he was closer to level than I thought and must have been coming closer to straight on than I thought. Maybe I should invest in one of those scopes that takes a picture when you shoot. It was instant death, but I am a bit confused as to what actually occurred.

I should add that although I have been on lots of doe culling hunts, this is the second buck I have ever taken. The first was a button-cost a lot, but tasted great! Unlike many hunters, I don't get shaky looking at deer with the safety off. I know some that get the shakes looking through binos! What gives?! Maybe they need to go a'culling and whack 10-12 in an afternoon. Some have told me I need to give up if I don't get excited. Perhaps I need to pursue other game.
