JeffreyPhDAmerican hunters ability to shoot.
One other thought... going out on a limb a bit, it appears to me that the widespread popularity of black rifles has had an overall negative effect on marksmanship. There's too much emphasis on rapid fire. On a recent trip to the range, a shooter had a human silhouette target set up at 25 yards. "Groups" on the target were close to a foot across. The shooter seemed satisfied.

CrazyhorseconsultingUnfortunately, I tend to agree with your opinion. All too many folks seem to be all too focused on "Double Tapping" than making the first shot do the job.

Cajun1956My PH's thought that Americans were typically good shots. A common complaint among them was that some Americans would fire the first shot and then admire their shot instead of chambering a follow-up round or following up with a second shot. According to the PH's, many times the lack of a quick follow-up shot resulted in wounded game and hours of successful/unsuccessful tracking efforts.

.....or messing around trying to retrieve the brass instead of keeping their eyes on the game.

I see this a lot at my local range as well. Another thing I have noticed is almost no one shoots a pistol past 10 or 15 yards, and even then, they seem lucky to place their shots withing an 18 inch circle.

AtkinsonYes sir, I see black rifles a lot in the field..It really turns me off, but its legal, so it is what it is...I see the same with long range shooters, it turns me off also, but its legal...I don't fret over it, just have an opinion, nothing more, nothing less.
