Dan,

How is Wenatchee? I lived in Seattle 20 years ago and miss the Northwest. Anyway, I would love to have a 585 Nyati, but with a 500 it is only overkill.

Also would love to have a 577 NE double by Purdey or H&H.

I have a .270 and two .30-06es, all bolt guns, but am starting to scheme to acquire a ballistically redundant Savage 99 in .300 Savage. I've always just thought they were cool.

Shotgun: A 28 gauge 5 1/4 lb side by side built on a "baby" frame with 25" barrels, single selective trigger, and built-in radar.

And maybe the same in an O/U.

Rifle: 'Bout time for one of those .20's on a Sako L461.

Hangun: Wish I could find one of those old High Standard Double-Nines with 5 1/2" barrel and adjustable sights.

just two: matching pair of merkel kipplaufbuchse or single shot carpathian mountain rifles with 6X42 Kahles scopes: one in 9.3X74R, and one in 7X65R. engraved in elk and deer on the 7mm, and elk and moose on the 9.3.

really quite simple, now if I had the 7K to do it, I could post the pictures!

guns have nothing to do with need, since you can stab, speer, bludgen, or just plain ol'hit your food with a car doing 80mph. the whole idea isn't need, it's want plain and simple, affordability is just another nasty little joke reality plays on us.

This one is easy, a model 81 woodsmaster in .35 Rem, a model 100 winchester in .308, a Colt Lightning in 38-40(?)and a Winchester 74 .22 cal. Oh yes, the German double rifle my old chem teacher has, in if I remember right 9.3 x 74r. Two scopes, claw mounts, no external adjustments and deadly accurate. Simple start huh.

Thompson Sub-Machinegun; what close range firepower!

This is just not mere imagination, as we are not allowed to have more than six huntingguns here in Sweden. So if you find that beauty you have longed for your entire life and you already have six guns, you must get rid of a old one to get the beauty...

But here is my list:

1. a real .375 take-down from Holland and Holland (I saw one some years ago but hadnt the money for it. It took some weeks to get my good night-sleep back again.)

2. a Winchester lever action, 1885 (?) in .45-70

3. a Husqvarna 103C hammer shotgun in cal. 16

4. a .256 Mannlicher Schnauer (6.5x54MS)

I can't say why, but I've always wanted a First generation SAA Colt .45 with the 5 1/2" barrel and the whole original leather rig to carry it in!

Also would love to have an over/under 20 guage SKB 685 with fully engraved sideplates and exhibition grade wood.

The one I always wanted is slowly coming to fruition in my shop now. A Pre 64 Model 70 .375 H&H with custom wood and a 1.75 x 6E Leupold scope- otherwise all original.

This list, as most of the lists above, is subject to change at any time. - Sheister

A Remington 40XBBR in .220 Swift. Oops. Need that one too.

An old Husquavarna carbine in 6.5x55. Oops. My wife needs that.

An old Ruger Blackhawk flattop in .41 Magnum with 7" barrel. Oops. I need that one to match my .44.

A new T/C Classic. Oops. Got to have one of those.

A Remington 700 Classic in .300 Whetherby. Oops. I need that one to match my Classic in .25-06.

Well now, I can't seem to think of any that I want but don't need.....Maybe a D'Arcy Echols Custom Mauser in .416 Remington. Hey, I finally found one I don't really need!
But then again, I might just have to go to Africa and shoot some really big stuff! Course if I can only need what I could afford, maybe I really don't need that one.

I would like to have a serious .50 cal 1000 yard rifle, I do OK with my puny little M1A, but I just love to punch those holes close together 1000 yards out!

It is really neat to take a young first-timer out to a 1000 yard match and watch their face change from anxiety to delight when they get on paper!

To wish for something I really don't need, is something I'm an expert at.(My wife says!)
1. Rebarrel my Brno 602, from 460 WBY into 450 DAKOTA.(I'm not sure why, but i belive it has to do with the belt??)
2. A rifle (should look like a rifle to!! Not a "thing" that looks like it's taken out of a Star Wars movie!!) chambered for .50 BMG IMPROVED for 1000yrd shooting.(such activity is as good as non existents in Norway.)
3. To make a set of different SHILEN SS Selected Match -barrels, to my Rem. 700BDL.
Containing: .308 WIN., 243 WIN.IMP., and 22-243 Middelsted.
4. ++++++ (There isn't a day I'm not coming up with a new thing I want, THAT'S LIFE!!)

Well lets see...

Always wanted a 22 hornet bolt action, preferably a win model 70

416 Taylor on a Mauser action, just don't have anything around to shoot with it.

Same with a 35 Whelen, in a Model 70.

One of those Marlin Guide guns in the 50 Alaskan Takedown version with the 18.5" barrel looks kinda neat.

Something chambered in 50 BMG, probably bolt action.

Something in 12 caliber, just for the heck of it too!

Well...hmmm,

12 gauge DBBL 30" side by side shotgun. Hammer, back action, round body and straight grip by Purdey or Grant with both barrels Imp Cylinder.

8 or 4 bore DBBL rifle, obviously under lever, hammer by some old London gunmaker.

450/400 3" NE, DBBL rifle by Jaffery or Charles Lancaster. Should be sidelock ejector with non-auto safety.

275 Rigby Mauser bolt action rifle by Rigby or Holland with 26" barrel, express sights and typical English stock.

256 MS by Manlicher Schonaur spoon bolt handle.

20 gauge DBBL shotgun by Boss. Boss makes best guns only, so it will be a side lock ejector.

One 9mm Luger
One 45 Colt 1911
One Mauser Broom handle with wooden stock

Dan in Wa,
I'm in Washington too except on the wet side a little closer to Seattle. You are right about the traffic in the city. I've already gotten the 1909 Argentine in .35 Whelen (had that one for twenty years now). Currently on the wish list that I don't need are a Winchester 43 (Hornet or Bee version), a Cooper Varminter (cartridge yet to be determined), a Marlin 336 in .35 Rem and another in .375 Win, a Remington 700BDL chambered for any short magnum to be a donor rifle when I build a .358 Norma, a Schultz and Larsen 7X61 S&H like my dad used to have, and a lever action .357 carbine. Now there's the list of absolute necessities that goes on a bit longer. Ed

I want just this...a lever gun, Model 94, or my favorite, a Marlin, chambered in anything that will drive a flat nose 150 grain pill between 2700 and 2800 fps. The 307 comes close, but it ain't there. The 356 does a 200 grainer at 2400. But to really hunt the woods and to also allow yourself a longer option on the shots say stepping through to a plat corner field, I'd plead for a 150 flat nore at 2750 fps.

But of course, being a lever gun, compact and reliable, it probably wouldn't sell.

Okay!

A medium-heavy fluted barrel in the 222 REM.
At 3250 fps it is no slouch as a varmiter and possibly the easiest cartridge to load and shoot into very small groups. The design just works. Medium-heavy barrel gives it stiffness, helps cooling, gives the carrying ability that varmiters lack, and recoil is not a factory.

Now we take a simple 270 Win. or a 270 WBY. A light weight barrel so we can carry it everywhere. Range isn't a problem with this cartridge. Nor is its killing power on most North American game.

Now lay on me a 338 Win Mag. Certainly not hyper velocity, but capable of cleanly taking any Elk, Moose, or Big Bear.

If we are going to Africa, give me the 416 Rigby. I have been playing with one for a while now. CZ 550 Magnum. The cartridge is much more accurate then I expected it to be and it crushes every target I put in its path.
No, I have not ventured to Africa as of yet, but one day, when I free myself up from the restraints of a business, I'll be there looking at a Cape Buffalo. And I think I'll keep the CZ, for the price it sure has a lot of sweet features.
