Its not abig deal but which would you prefer,

A std98 length Granite Mauser in 308 NormaMagnum
or,
Magnum length 98 300H&H?

The Norma would have a heavier chamber area with 25"tube .550" muzzle(more aggressive taper) and a Blackburn widebox(same capacity as a dropbox)
The 300H*H would have a slimmer profile chamber area, with same length barrel/muzzle Dia.

everything else being equal I'm all for the venerable .300 H&H.

Woodjack,

308 Norma magnum thumb thumb

Your need a matched pair of Nils Kvale's darlings, 308 and a 358 Norma Magnum Smiler Smiler Smiler

308 Norma built on standard action will be a handier rifle... I would use magnum mauser action for 416 Rigby, 450 Rigby, 505 Gibbs etc.

Cheers

If I were employing a Granite Mountain action, I'd certainly build a 300 H&H over any other 300 magnum chambering. It's a natural pairing, and the 300 H&H will do all that the 308 Norma will do, plus it'll feed better as well. That half-inch longer bolt-throw that the 300 H&H brings with it means absolutely nothing in the real world..........
