My partner and I finished our alligator season yesterday. The first day we caught 21 gators. The biggest was over 11 feet long. It was a good season and we had a lot of fun. This was the 33 season I have hunted gators.

That looks like a lot of fun. Every once and awhile I catch the Swamp People tv show on. Do you set up baits similar to what they do or mainly shooting them from a distance? This is on my short list of hunts/adventures I want to do.

I set baits in the air about 24" from the surface of the water.

We shoot a few free swimming but not very often.

Looks like fun to me! Thanks for the photos and story. I watch Swamp People and admire them, now you guys! Do you sell them by the pound or foot?

Looks like a good time to me! What do you do with the gators? I'm guessing sell the skins?

We sell the gators by the foot. About 20 years ago the buyers wanted the whole gator. Prior to that we skinned everything we caught. Those were some long days.

Interesting stuff, I like swamp people and my wife loves it-she's got a soft spot for Troy.

Can you tell me what an average gator is worth? I'd be interested to know what the "swamp boys" make off their gators.

Anyway, it looks like a hell of a lot of fun and makes me want to move down to the bayou.

Average length of a gator is around seven feet. Average price is about $28.00 per foot.

Prices have ranged from nearly $60.00 per foot in the late 80s to $2.00 per foot in 2009.

Thank you for the post and photos.

When i was a child my father took me to Skunks barber shop in Mims Florida. Skunk, the owner, had a gator head on the shelf over the shop bathroom door. Ever since getting my first hair cut at Skunks, I wanted to find my own gator and have the head mounted with green eyes just like the gator at Skunks.

Maybe someday.

Congrats on a good season Mike. I applied to SC but as suspected, I didn't draw this first attempt. Next year maybe; third year should be for sure. Looking forward to a good lizard hunt. Cheers, David

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

David,
who are you planning on hunting with in SC? We hunt the draw every year and have been very successful. We'd be more than happy to host you at no charge. Just like hunting them.
PM me anytime.
