At least they are asking instead of telling! Story Discussion Gazette News Service JACKSON, Wyo. - Grand Teton National Park and the National Elk Refuge are encouraging hunters to voluntarily use non-lead ammunition during the upcoming elk and bison seasons. The park and refuge issued a joint release Thursday saying lead is an environmental toxin that can poison animals that eat carcasses shot with lead bullets. Officials say studies have found that lead levels increase in ravens and eagles in Jackson Hole during the fall hunting season. Park officials also say lead bullet fragments have been found in packaged game meat. Officials stress that lead bullets are still allowed. The parks are asking hunters who use non-lead bullets to note it on their hunting permits so officials can measure participation.

My guess is that they are prepping people by asking, only so they can tell them in the future. I'll give it a year or two and I bet it's law.

They'e doing the same thing in the Arizona Strip and Kaibab national forests. Use is still voluntary and Arizona will either give you a box of bullets or two boxes of ammo free to make it easy to comply. That finally got me to try those Barnes TSX bullets last year. can't say as to how they worked on game but they are accurate. I only saw one deer I felt was worth shooting and some other yahoo spooked before I could get off a shot. Paul B.

My money's with you guys. Always a fore-runner to BS. Just like waterfowl hunters going to steel. Now for only $3-$5 per shell, you can shoot non toxic shells. Wonder what the copper bullets will go to? They're already swelling to $45-$300 per box of 20 cartridges. I think they hope we'll quit hunting due to it being so costly.
