Is the "Whackmaster" running for office?
Ted Nugent sounds off
By ROBERT WINTERODE
Cox News Service
Monday, July 11, 2005

AUSTIN, Texas — As Motor City Madmen go, Jack White and Eminem have nothing on 57-year-old Ted Nugent.

The self-described "Rosa Parks with a guitar and a raised middle finger" might be bringing his right-wing politics-on-steroids to the Michigan Governor's Mansion.

He's considering a "high-percentage maybe" run for the office. He yells at me his platform, which includes something about "cops that have their legs blown off and soldiers who are in wheelchairs and children with leukemia, who don't get the money because some fat pig welfare brat is sitting on his worthless (expletive.)"

The NRA board member, Fox News talking head and author of books such as "Gods, Guns, and Rock 'N' Roll," "Blood Trails 2" and "Kill It & Grill It: A Guide to Preparing and Cooking Wild Game and Fish" recently moved his family — his wife, Shemane, and the four kids — to Crawford, Texas because he liked the school system there. Nugent divides his time between Crawford and a home near Jackson, Mich., and maintains Michigan residency. The staunch guns advocate taught his children to shoot with BB and cork guns before they even entered elementary school.

Five years ago, Nugent ignited a controversy in Texas when he opened for KISS in Houston, San Antonio and Austin. His "If you can't speak English, then get the (expletive) out of America" statements enraged Hispanic groups such as the League of United Latin American Citizens, which called for a boycott of his concerts and merchandise. The organization's state director, Roger Rocha, declined to comment on Nugent's upcoming visit to Austin on Wednesday, saying, "We respect Mr. Nugent, his opinions and his music." Nugent has returned to Austin since the 2000 concert without incident.

In an hour-long phone interview, Nugent held forth on politics, music, his Austin brunch buddy and even Tom and Katie. He also called the interviewer a "liberal chimp" with allegiance to those "pathetic hippies in Austin." But in a nice way.

Nugent on hunting:

"Certainly, there's a powerful folklore dynamic to a grizzly bear, an elephant, a rhino, buffalo and lions. And I've killed all of those things . . .

"I share campfires, Robert, with terminally ill children, soldiers who have given up their legs and arms and eyes so that I can go hunting, so that you can have a career and I can have a career and we can go barbecuing and we could be the best that we can be and travel across state lines without the Gestapo and the French stopping us."

On "the kill":

"The kill itself is such a brief hiccup in time. You know it's misrepresentative and I believe anti-symbolic of what hunting surely is . . . I'd rather frame the exultation and the gushing of emotional and spiritual celebration, regarding any and all hunts in more (the idea of) who are you with."

On eating Nugent-style:

For his beef supply, he relies on a few "conscientious organic producers." For most everything else he hunts. "There's nothing more pure and organic than critters of the hoof. . . . If I've been smart about anything in life, it's that at the tender age of 57, there's not a city in America where there isn't one of my fellow brothers with something dead and fresh over mesquite waiting for me. Is that beautiful or what?"

On his favorite arthropod:

"(The botanists) come to my ranch in Michigan every year, where I have a wonderful specialized wetlands known as a fen . . . the only piece of ecosystem in North America where the Mitchell's Satyr Butterfly is thriving, an endangered species everywhere, except on Ted Nugent's property."

On Texas Gov. Rick Perry:

"I understand he is a good hunter . . . When I come to Austin, I'm even more fortified because I typically have a Tex-Mex brunch with the governor at the mansion there . . . So it's really the best of all worlds." (Perry's media spokeswoman Kathy Walt confirms that Nugent and Perry talk and exchange e-mails. "They get along very well," she says.)

On the "speak English" controversy:

"You've heard the horror story of the dumbing-down of America. Part of that dumbing-down is also the chiseling away of true independence, which drove the original immigration dreamers coming through Ellis Island. . . . They knew they had to read those English words while they're pushing the broom, while they're sewing those garments, while they're doing that dry cleaning, while they're picking that fruit, while they're working on those shoes, you know what I mean? That era of work ethic towers over the current (one) of 'no comprende.' "

On why he appreciates Michael Moore:

"He's quite a beast of burden, isn't he? Nothing makes me look better than Michael Moore. He stands for everything I don't believe in and I stand for everything he doesn't believe in."

On Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes:

"I see a lot of smiles. I love when people are happy. She's a bomber. She's stunning. He's a handsome young man and a brilliant actor unto himself."

On what he would do in the event of a "War of the Worlds"-like alien invasion:

"I'm privy to some firepower dynamics that your average civilian is not and we would just wipe the (expletives) out. And then we'd probably sauté them and use them for bait and kill some bear over their carcasses."

On why he sports the Confederate flag at his concerts:

"(It's) a historical symbol of a lifestyle and a freedom and an independence below the Mason-Dixon line that many great men and women gave up their lives for during the Civil War. To me, it represents a certain defiance against federalism, a certain defiance against other people telling you how to live your life. And I wear it because I'm a big fan of defiance."

On guns:

"You should be able to put the second bullet in the same hole as the first bullet. That's gun control. I think good gun control is that no felons should have any access to firearms."

On his newest pop culture obsession:

"Since the Motown greats, I don't think I've ever seen such soul, such virtuosity in every one of those gals and every one of those musicians to the point that I was stunned and genuinely chilled by the soul and dynamic of that Destiny's Child operation."

If I was forced to vote for him or a Liberal Democrat, he is getting my vote.
Overbearing, obnoxious, tactless he is no doubt about that. But I'd rather see someone in office that is not afraid to make comments such as "..if you can't speak English get the !@#$ out..." than more of the type that seem to be rewarding bad behavior.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I would vote for a president/VP ticket of Ted and Jesse ventura. I wouldn't even care which one took which office. They might not get a lot done in Washington, but it would sure be fun to watch! Big Grin

Absolutely--to have a "politician" who actually speaks his mind, outlines his actual platform/beliefs and sticks to his guns would be a privilege, and a rare one at that.

Both of my wife's parents came to the USA from Germany in the early 1930's. They learned English and became American citizens. I expect nothing more and nothing less from any legal immigrant. We should round up the illegals and send them home. Nuff sed.

Uno momento Tedster...

Where is that in the second amemndment?

So someone who buys a used car, gets pulled over for a busted tailight, and an illegal search of the vehicle finds a few remains of "whatever" hidden "wherever" is denied an "inalienable" right for the rest of his life?

Or MANY similiar circumstances with the same outcome.

I taught industrial truck safety for seven years at a meat packing plant, and we were REQUIRED, to print our tests, study manuals, and safety signs, in spanish, as well as english. I have no problem with people coming to this country to take advantage of the opportunities this great nation has to offer, BUT, they should at least have the courtesy, and respect to learn to communicate. You can be proud of your heritage, and culture and still speak english.

Unfortunately (and shamefully) there are a few that should.

The new second amendment:

...the right of the State (and all it's revenue officers) to keep and bear arms AND use them at their own personal discretion WITHOUT any fear of retribution or accountability shall not be infringed (or challenged or questioned) and shall constantly be enhanced and expanded!

Nothing irritates me more than seeing corporate entities catering to these illiterate illegal aliens. If we are going bilingual then lets do it right, lets throw some french, Chinese, Russian etc. etc. in there as well. NOT!!

What part of "illegal imigration" do our elected officials not understand? Obviously it is the first part. Maybe it is time for us to elect some officials who do!

It was strange, at that particular (Kraft Foods) plant, we had 5-6 dialects of spanish, 7 or so oriental languages, as well as German, and Arabic (Hallal Food), and the only one catered to was spanish.

If you're proud of your heritage, stay where you inherited it. Otherwise adopt that of your new country.

Pride, sloth, envy, arrogance....

I do not and never will understand why some immigrants want to live in their past. I do not and never will understand pride in something one dislikes enough to leave. For that matter, if you haven't got the balls to tackle the problems of your homeland I probably don't want you here anyway.

But according to him, every felon is wrongly convicted, and their crimes are justifiable. Those cops who arrest people are just thugs. What a crock.

In my state driving with a "busted" tail light is illegal.
Hmmmmm?

Driving with a busted tail light is called "probable cause."
If you are stupid enough to drive around with "pull me over officer, I'm a dumbass" on the back of your car, what else are you stupid enough to do?

There are MANY scenarios of what a FELON is.
To me a felon is someone who has given up their "rights" by their unlawful, dumbass actions.

Kind of like when you ground your kid because he got caught doing something KNOWING it was against your rules.

If you want to live in this country and have the freedom it entails, you must not be an idiot, or your rights might get taken away.

Everybody who doesn't like playing by the rules can go live in some crappy third world country with absolutely NO rights and see how you like it.
Sooner is better!thumb

I would vote for the Motor City Madman in a heartbeat!

I am 100% in agreement with the fellows who are against gun ownership for felons. If felons were allowed to have guns, most of them will end up using it for offensive rather than defensive purposes.

I understand that the second ammendment gives you the right to keep and bear arms but I must say that the constitution is a living document. If we were to take the second ammendment based on the words alone then what is stopping us from buying stinger missiles or other dangerous weapons?? Second ammendment does not catagorically define what kinds of weapons you can keep?

That being said, I am a huge supporter for people's right to defend themselves and their properties and will never give up that right for as long as I live, but I am not totally against the government's and the court's rights to define that ammendment especially in the case of felons owning guns.

Most (if not all) convicted felons made their own bad choices that caused them to become felons in the first place.

There are many things convicted felons are not able to do, gun ownership is just one.
Curiously, convicted felons CAN be elected president.

The legislature must have allowed this so they would be able to “move up†when they got kicked out of Congress or the Senate after their felony conviction...

Dan, like you what really confounds me is why some immigrants want to hang onto customs that remind them of a place they disliked so much they left (or FLED) in the first place.

Yea watch out!! Never buy a used car because it just might be filled to the gills with dope! When the cops pull you over for no reason, they are going to find it and arrest your ass. Then after your fourth amendment rights are violated, a crooked jury conspires with the judge to have your ass thrown into jail. It is all just one big conspiracy!
boohoo
Last I heard, you didn't get pulled over for obeying the law...let alone pulled out an searched for no good reason. The folks you talk of SOG, sound like they are involved in criminal activity to begin with..."honest officer, it's not MY car!". You obviously have had a few brushes with the law...trying to pass the blame since you got busted???

That's some very twisted logic you're throwing around.

Sonofagun,

In 20 yrs I have hauled lots of idiots like you to jail, all the while crying and whinning that " it isn't mine " or " I didn't know it was there ", and guess what at the end of the day it all came out in the wash that in fact it was theirs. I went home and slept well not worring about an innocent person being in jail.

Now as far as Ted Nugent goes its plain you have never met the man. I have hunted with him several times. Been his guest at his home and cabin in Michigun, and hunted at his ranch in Crawford and been to his home there also. I can say without hesitation that if you would spout off with that stupid shit either you or Ted would wear an ass whippin', I've dragged deer, chopped wood and generaly worked around camp with Ted. My money is on him.

There is no " TV Ted " or " maintain a personna " with Ted. What you see is how he is 27/7. Hes the real deal....................JJ
