Done all by a 300 savage... not much more than a 30-30, imagine that. Many on this forum would have him with a 300 WhatEverTheHellTheNextBestUltramagCartridgeOfTheWeekIs magnum... you know... the holy grail of cartridges just discovered this week, the only suitable cartridge for taking deer and up.

Nickudu.. Thanks a lot, great story. Some of my fathers family emigratet to Alaska and Washington at the same time and I have heard the stories of the hardship they endured. But as times were bad back here in Norway, many ( the most adventures and free minded I guess ) opted for a better way of life in US and Candada.

quote:Actually, not much less than a .308 about like a .30-40 or .303 British. However, more than a .30-30 particularly at that time.

We had several .300 Savage shooters in my family when I was a youngster in the 40s and 50s. They used both the Savage M99 lever gun and the Savage M20 bolt gun. My one "racy" uncle had a Winchester M70 in .300 H&H. Those hunters used the .300 Savage because it was designed to equal original .30'06 ballistics in a short action rifle. It definitely kills game dead. The Army started with the .300 Savage cartridge in their development work for the 7.62X51/.308 Win. jim dodd

I believe the .300 Savage is only a threat to big game when the rifle is in the hands of a Norwegian... Tron
