That video illustrates one small reason among many that I've no interest in "hunting" in Africa. I was rooting for the cat, God knows he deserved to win.

Quote: Dan: You are not the first fellow hunter I've come across who's had that reaction to this video. Why? I don't get it. What exactly is being done that elicits that response from you? God knows those guys laid their necks on the line during that episode, so it can't be a "fair chase" issue. Please, elaborate on your condemnation. RSY

Quote: Only by their own inept attempts. There are several answers to your question. The first of which is the fence behind the cat. Fair chase implies the animal has a good chance of escape. It is poor form to shoot even lowly plains game against a fence. Second is he is too well fed and well groomed to be wild. Third the cat dosnt resond like an animal in the wild. At least a predator of this class. It is paramount to shooting a deer in a pen.

Mike: You must have a better eye than I do; I saw no fence. I'll take another look, though. I definitely would not condone such a practice. Ironically, if it's true, it looked like the fence upped the ante in this case, rather than making it an easier hunt. Presenting yourself to a top carnivore backed up against a barrier is never the safer option. Some might even call it "fairer." The only thing I thought, on my initial viewing, that the guy was guilty of was poor shooting (with maybe an inadequate cartridge)...it should have been over at the first shot. RSY
