That video illustrates one small reason among many that I've no interest in "hunting" in Africa. I was rooting for the cat, God knows he deserved to win.

Dan:

You are not the first fellow hunter I've come across who's had that reaction to this video. Why? I don't get it. What exactly is being done that elicits that response from you? God knows those guys laid their necks on the line during that episode, so it can't be a "fair chase" issue.

Please, elaborate on your condemnation.

Only by their own inept attempts.

There are several answers to your question. The first of which is the fence behind the cat. Fair chase implies the animal has a good chance of escape. It is poor form to shoot even lowly plains game against a fence. Second is he is too well fed and well groomed to be wild. Third the cat dosnt resond like an animal in the wild. At least a predator of this class. It is paramount to shooting a deer in a pen.

Mike:

You must have a better eye than I do; I saw no fence. I'll take another look, though. I definitely would not condone such a practice. Ironically, if it's true, it looked like the fence upped the ante in this case, rather than making it an easier hunt. Presenting yourself to a top carnivore backed up against a barrier is never the safer option. Some might even call it "fairer."

The only thing I thought, on my initial viewing, that the guy was guilty of was poor shooting (with maybe an inadequate cartridge)...it should have been over at the first shot.
