Here is the first "official" list I have seen from Califonia for ammo in the condor country. I'm glad I don't live in Califonia and I'm glad I love Barnes Bullets anyway. http://www.dfg.ca.gov/wildlife/hunting/condor

We as sportsmen can't bury our heads in the sand and think this wont go to other states. Last I checked the Bald Eagle was still in Alaska and you can bet the Greenies will look at "protecting" them next.

You bet. I've heard some of the same rumblings here in AZ because the condors make it here too. At the same time we have bald eagles here but eagles tend to kill their own prey so it's not likely that they will come into play . Ken.... Fellow Hunters ; It's time to smell the out house !. As it's going to be mandatory in every state VERY SOON !. China's use of lead has sored ( As have prices ) now is the time to consider alternatives . Think back on Water based Paint stains and Oil based products !. We all know it's coming it's simply a matter of when !!. The sooner projectile manufacturers deal with it perhaps the cost won't escalate at the rate of crude !. Shoot Straight Know Your Target . ... Take a drive through eastern Montana or Wyoming in the winter. Bald eagles there love carrion. Almost every time I drive from Montana to Denver I'll see at least one bald eagle feasting on a road killed deer or antelope. Some friends and I shot a coyote a few years ago that we left in the field. An hour later there was a bald eagle and 6 ravens on it. Four hours later the coyote was only some fur and scatered bones. It was also my understanding that bald eagles were a big factor in getting lead shot banned for waterfowl hunting because an eagle might eat a duck that had been wounded with or had ingested some lead pellets. The greenies both in and out of the government will use any excuse that they can to ban hunting and shooting. The current hysteria over lead adds fuel to their fire. California is only their first state. NRA Endowment Life Member

With a single sentence you've proven once again that you really are misinformed, if not flat-out ignorant, in addition to being a complete dickhead. ______________________ Hunting: I'd kill to participate.

A few years ago I sat in my blind in Wyoming and watched a bald eagle carry off the liver of a deer that I had gutted. So yes they do eat carrion. Rad NRA Benefactor Member

I wish we had a monopoly on wacky laws but we don't. You folks laughing at us rather than helping us fight need to get ready for your own fight real soon. Hopefully it won't sneak into your your area as easily as it did here. I'm not saying I agree but I do have 3 degrees in biology and any halfwit biologist with a laptop and three test tubes can make a good case for lead being toxic to any living organism they choose to run with as their "poster child". And good luck getting ANY politican needing re-election to make a stand as being pro lead. Learn from our failure rather than thinking you're immune.

That is great advice as the greenies will be pushing the no-lead issue across every state before long. It's just a matter of time. ---- Moose-Hunter wrote: "Nothing worth hunting in Cali, anyways." If you'd crawl out from under your rock, you'd be aware that California has some terrific hunting opportunities. Granted, there are some zanies who choose to make that state their home, but other than TX, there is no better hunting for truly wild hogs than what California has been offering for years. A diversity of varmints make off-season hunting enjoyable, and there is some wonderful blacktail hunting to be had there as well. Moose-hunter, keep your head up your ass for a few more years. Read this post: https://forums.accuratereloading.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/3411043/m/541107268 Which includes this statement: "The four-day gathering that begins Monday at Boise State University includes more than 50 presentations on issues ranging from lead poisoning among subsistence hunting Inuits in Alaska and Russia, lead levels in ravens in southern Yellowstone National Park, lead found in swans in Western Washington state and the politics of nontoxic ammunition." Lead free hunting ammunition will be mandatory soon in Alaska also. Frank "I don't know what there is about buffalo that frightens me so.....He looks like he hates you personally. Glad I have a few thousand Barnes TSX and TTSX on the bench. I'm against the lead ban just as much as anyone else, but perhaps it is time we consider the ramifications which have taken their toll on other wildlife by default as well? I can't say I'm a fan of the condor and I have mixed emotions regarding its survival. I suppose that with the few that are left, we have a duty to protect them by any means possible. As far as nothing to hunt in California, well, I'd like to hunt antelope there someday. Oh, I also have a ton of Etips on the way. Ted Kennedy's car has killed more people than my guns

The lead free area is in the southern part of the state (right now). The area is full of hogs and hunting ranches. The most famous is the Tejon Ranch. If this ban moves up the state, it will spread everywhere else.

Good information to know. Thanks for providing it. Ken.... "The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they are ignorant, but that they know so much that isn't so. " - Ronald Reagan

The bullet manufacturers will go to the same materials they make non-tox waterfowl shot from, if they are smart. All metal is, of course another option. I would try a partition with "hevi-core" or a Nosler "bismuth". Larry "Peace is that brief glorious moment in history, when everybody stands around reloading" -- Thomas Jefferson

in my area (and i am sure in yours) i talk to lots of hunters who don't vote. they just go to work, raise their family, and hunt when they get the chance. they don't particularly care what their elected representatives do because they feel they can't change anything. imo, this is precisely what happened in california, and will happen across the country UNLESS we get more involved. you see it with all the liberal-driven bs in our schools, the greenie-mandated laws, and in society in general. it makes this old man sick to see what we are allowing the liberals to do to this nation!

There was quite a bit of letter writing, emails and phone calls made on this law. The fact is that "green issues" are important to both the hunting and non-hunting population. Regardless of how you feel about it, both political parties pretty much supported it here and Arnold, our governator, signed it into law. I think the ban on lead will spread, just as it did for shotgun pellets. I am glad Barnes bullets work well in my big game rifles. I hope the Varmint Grenades work in my varmint rifles. The worst part of the ban, to me, is the ban on rimfire lead ammo for non-game species like ground squirrels. I like to take my son out with his .22 LR, and after this become effective in a month or so, he can't use it on them. The only rimfire option is the CCI "green" .22 mag load. I have yet to find a .22 LR slug left in a ground squirrel, though, and the traces of lead left would be pretty minimal... AS far what to hunt in California - try all 3 types of elk (where else do they all exist?), blacktails, mule deer, wild hogs, antelope and varmints.
