I saw on another board that Tony Mandile has died. It sounds like it was complications due to Covid and pneumonia. He has been living with COPD for years.

I didn’t realize, but I guess he wasn’t on here much in the past couple of years, but he was still active in other hunting pages. He was a good guy who had a ton of experience and was always a positive presence. I will miss seeing his posts.

RIP Tony!

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

I feel like he was someone I always liked and pretty much always agreed with. In the event that he and I were not fully in agreement, I felt like he was someone who was respectful enough to other people for a non-shared opinion that it didn't really matter.

In 2020 he and I contacted an outfitter here in New Mexico that was advertising on AR about buying two of the leftover antelope tags. The outfitter told us he would rather eat the tags than sell them for Covid discount prices. So I never actually got to meet him.

His passing is sad for our community.

I bought his book on Coues deer hunting. But when he tried to rake Aaron Nielson under the bus, he lost any respect I had for him, which wasn't much after he called me an idiot on an AR post.

He posted quite a bit over at RokSlide in the "one picture a day thread" for quite a while.

He will be missed.

RIP, Sir.
