It's a shame, but this is one more way of the anti's getting at us. Isn't right to hurt the outfitters or ourselves. Find a way to hurt Air Canada financially and you will extract revenge where it is due, otherwise grin and bear it.

I quit hunting and fishing in Canada when Ontario banned spring bear hunting.I got tired of the attitude, it seems they would have prefered me just sending a check and not coming to the province.

Hang on guys, we need to distinguish between Air Canada - the air carrier - and Canada - the nation we all enjoy visiting so much, with whom we share so many values, cultural and commercial ties.

It sure would be nice to be able to send a loud and clear signal to Air Canada, that extra, unwarranted charges for transporting firearms is a BAD idea, and will cost them customers in the long run. It is paramount this idea of extra fees for transporting firearms does not spread to other carriers!!! Once you have a fee structure in place, who is to stop the carriers from increasing their fees from 50-100-150 etc...

Shame on Air Canada!!

AAZW, you know what, that did cross my mind. The Canadian forum seems to have largely disintegrated into a bunch of nationalistic hogwash, sad as it is. We'll send these guys over there to discuss with their counterparts from the other side of the border... Wink

I realize we all feel like we are being nickled and dimed to death on a daily basis...but since when can $57 be considered WHOPPING or HUGE in relation to the cost of hunting in general or even flying in particular?

It's not the amount, it is the principal. It is thinking like yours that makes it OK to nickel and dime the "hunters". What do you work for Air Canada? Remember it is just for one way, you have to pay on your return also. The point is, they don't charge for golf clubs or any other sports equipment. Now do you get it? Roll Eyes

Uh, yes I get it....but I don't get so worked up over $60 when I might be paying $8-10K for a hunt. There are species I want to hunt in Canada and I'm not about to drive or take Amtrak up there to do it. If you wanna play, you're gonna pay.

scruffy,

I know what you are saying.

Don't worry to much about it, it is just a couple of snivellers, needing something to bitch and whine about to make the rest of the Americans look bad.

I think that Air Canada's fee's on guns is bullshit, by the way.

Economize – buy a case for two guns. It may turn out to be cheaper.

I don’t support the extra premium and would fly another airline to avoid the charge if I can.

By the way, I try the Air Canada web site and can’t find any reference to the extra charge for gun shipment. Can someone provide a URL?

Mike:

Thanks...

I have a feeling this is the beginning of an unwelcome precedence.

No sure if the charge is for each rifle or each gun case.

I see Gunpowder and gunpowder pellets are strictly prohibited. What do people with muzzleloaders do for propellants?

You have to buy it in Canada or have the outfitter provide it.

Take a shotgun along and a bunch of 12 guage shells "specially loaded" with the black powder of your choice.

Doc,

I have heard of guys doing this for African Safaris as well. One guy who hunted with a PH who posts here deprimed the cases and recylced the primers too for use on the inline (BLECH) he had with him. I for one didn't have time to arrange the shotshell loading for my last Candadian hunt so was forced to use that locally available and most evil stuff.....pyrodex (BLECH)!

Best,

John

Canada is a lot bigger than Ontario and there are better hunts than ontario too.

Have you quit hunting USA because of the hunts cancelled there, like California for instance?

boilerroom what hunts are you talking about being cancelled in califonia ? non-residents aren't allowed to hunt for antelope or elk but all others are open:mule & blacktail deer, bear, pigs, big horn sheep, small game and migratory birds plus predators.Hunting for jackrabbits, pigs and coyotes is year round. This year two of us booked anterless elk hunts on the San Carlos Apache Reservation in AZ cost was $620 each http://www.sancarlosrecreationandwildlife.com/huntingsched05-06.html .

They cancelled the Mt Lion hunt there. last I heard, they were making a move to close the NJ spring bear. Has there been no other closures over the last decade?

My point is that there are other states to hunt with different attitudes. The same applies to here and in fact this province of BC has added a species or 2 to hunt in the last decade.

Some people may be insulted with Air canada and I don't blame you. Do what you may to protest but Canada is still the best place to hunt in the northern hemispere and the poor attitude is isolated.

I won't hunt anywhere they don't allow sidearms. It limits my choices but I will never get to hunt all the other places I want to go in two lifetimes of hunting. To the cretin known as "SEAFIRE/B17G" Consider this as a rebuttal to your incredibly stupid comment about occupying Canada.
Apparently you havent noticed how successful your country is at invading and occupying third world nations. That little tiff in S.E. Asia and the current situation in Iraq ring a bell. You cant even win those and you threaten to invade a country where the people look like you, speak the language and are far better at living off the land than you will ever dream of being? Keep your 19 year old kids at home where they belong instead of having them blown to bits to satisfy some thick skulled politician suckholing votes from morons like you. F.O.A.D.!
