This speech was written by Jim Beers, retired USFWS, and presented by the Friends of the Northern Yellowstone Elk Herd in Bozeman MT May 16 2010. It outlines his career up until he was forced to retire at the hight of wolf introduction. Sportsman that don't know about wolf introduction should be livid with the fact that $70 million dollars of Pittman Robertson excise tax money meant to improve wildlife habitat was taken from us and given to an animal rights organization to destroy what we built over the past 80 years. Defenders of Wildlife, with the help of USFWS, has nearly destroyed what sportsman have built in less than 20 years by releasing a non native predator into our ecosystem with the intent of decimating elk, deer, and moose populations.

For the money spent to re-introduce Wolves, they could have bought them each a very nice condo in any upscale ski resort.

The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

I looked at this a little bit differently when it was all going on.

We have kids in the Country going to bed HUNGRY each night...Seniors who contributed to the Country for genrations...going to bed cold or hungry, or unable to afford medications...But we are buying WOLVES from the Canadians for ludicrous prices, and spending MILLIONS of dolalrs to introduce a species that were eliminated for a REASON.

The entire wolf subject STILL SICKENS me.

And when are people, regardless of political party affiliation, gonna wake up and realize the problem is government, not too little government?

Hopefully before it's too late.

Ladies and Gentlemen:

And we are wondering how Obama the Goof all of a sudden acquired $12 million in assets, since becoming President of the United States? I thought he was worried, during the campaign about paying his student loans back.

With the USFW accounting as evidenced by Mr. Beers, we certainly should not be wondering.

Wolves suck!

Sincerely,

Chris Bemis

Wolves need to be introduced in Central Park, NY and Battery Park, CA. Maybe the enviros can live with them but we rural "gun totin, God fearin, rednecks" cannot.

I may be mistaken but these wolves were taken out of my sheep hunting area here in Alberta and good ridence. Sorry to here they ended up down there as they should have been shot dead. The wolves up here in Alberta are out of control. One area use to have over 10 000 head of elk and now reported to be around 2 500. Sheep herds are not doing as well as they should either. We can hunt and trap them here but thye are very difficult to get.

The reality is, wolves are killing machines; apex predators. The kill just for sport, and slaughter in the name of fun. They are not interested in the weak or sick, those can't run away fast enough to make the chase sporting. They will eat carrion, or with weak and sick but only if they're very hungry. In the spring there favorite sport is to run down heavy Elk cows and grab them by the nose, while the pack rips open her belly and pulls out the fetus. They will leave the cow to die, rip the fetus to shreds and eat a snack before taking up the chase again. I agree with the anti-wolf crowd and would like to see them disappear...again.

A fellow anti-wolf friend posted this and I feel it's worth repeating. "In order to have a healthy population of wolves, hunters cannot have the opportunity to harvest big game animals!" (qoute from the pro-wolf side) Hunters have supported the conservation of our wildlife since the early 1900's when the Pittman Robertson excise tax was created and every time you buy a hunting or fishing licence, you support the conservation of wildlife! We also paid for the introduction of canis lupus occindentalis with our money that is to be used to improve hunting and fishing opportunities under the act. When Defenders of Wildlife, along with USFWS, took $70 million dollars of that Pittman Robertson excise tax money to introduce occindentalis into our wilderness, they violated what the act was created for. To "improve" hunting opportunities! Intoduction of occindentalis into the great lakes and northern rockies has had the opposite affect on improvement of wildlife and conservation. The only thing thats been conserved for 16 years are these predators which are not native to these areas. We paid for this predator introduction and we should be allowed to manage them.

To paraphrase FDR, "there is nothing to fear but the government itself." All the more relevant now that we have this misfit in power in Washington. When I was on the game commission I was totally against the bear re introduction in Arizona. Unfortunately the decision to work with the feds was made before my term. I was told that we (AZ G&F) were told that you either work with us and have a say in their management or we will do it without you and you will be out of the process entirely. It was, and continues to be, a grand and very expensive, mistake. The USF&W is, like so many other government agencies, hell to deal with. Far to much power in the hands of a few, and the concerns of those in the communities most adversely affected by their decisions matter nothing to them.
