I'm planning a first time trip to Arizona between X'mas and New Years. Wondering what a non-US resident can hunt in the way of birds and big game?

Quail season is in full swing right now with three species available. A 3-day NR SMALL game license would cost you $61.25.

As for big game, all gun seasons are by lottery permit only. The best option is OTC archery deer. The season is Dec 11, 2009 - Jan 31, 2010 in these units:

10, 15A, 15B, 15C, 15D, 17B, 18A, 18B, 19B, 20B, 20C, 21 (except Cave Creek Recreation Area), 24A,24B, 25M, 26M, 28, 29, 30A, 30B, 31, 32, 33, 34A, 34B, 35A (except Fort Huachuca), 35B, 36A, 36B,36C, 37B, 38M (including Tucson Mountain Wildlife Area), 39, 40A, 40B, 41, 43A, 43B, 44A, 44B, and 47M

There are bear hunts open until Dec. 31 in certain units, but they are regulated by total harvest. So any one of them can be already closed or will close at any time.

Varmint hunting is also an option with coyotes and bobcats as the main prey.

This is a link to the AZ Hunting Regulations.
