Its been cold and dreary here in Denver, which means November is fast approaching! The start of cold weather is gettin me all ansy. So for you guys heading up to to the hills, whats the weapon (s) of choice this year?

My new (to me) M70 300wby w/Nikon 3-12x42 will be going with a soon to be developed load of 180gr TTSX. Not sure on back up, if I have the Mk V 280 ready it'll go, but the 'smith said my ultra light 300wsm MIGHT be ready with enough time to sight in the factory 165 Fail Safe's. Not really looking forward to zeroing that one in lol but I'm sure it'll be a darling to pack.

If you think every possible niche has been filled already, thank a wildcatter!

I've loaded some really great 180 Accubonds in a 20" barreled Remmy 700 synthetic .308 win. It clocks an amazing 2,740 FPS and because of the gun's easy length and weight and synthetic stock it's getting the scabbard duty.

I'm going to be just West of you in Montrose so I'll wave as I drive by Denver....

Backup gun is a .30-06 shooting the same 180 accubonds in a wood stocked M-70 featherweight and strangely enough at the same velocity!

Both guns shoot quite well and are light and easy to carry but the synthetic stocked gun will be in the scabbard as long as it is able.

I'm also taking a .375 whitworth and 250 grain TSX but don't expect it to be used....

Well, let's see, maybe the .360 Imperial or the .338 Imperial. Maybe my .358 Griffin & Howe Improved or my 9.3x64. Confused They all like to be taken for a walk now and then Wink Honestly, the .338 and the 9.3 will be my primary rifles this year. Good luck to all of you too thumb

I am going to buy a non-resident Wyoming cow tag and probably going to shoot my Sako AV fiberclass Sako with a Zeiss 3-9 Conquest.

I might hunt her with my 340 Weatherby Accumark if I can get it going.

I am taking "Little Nyama" to New Mexico.

Little Nyama was born in 2000 shortly after the "recount" began.

Little Nyama is a Remington 30-06 Mountain Rifle. It loves Federal 180gr Nosler Partitions. It loves to shoot them in small groups.

I love Little Nyama.

"Big Nyama" was strongly considered, but I don't have the time now to redevelop a load for it and the Barnes TSX.

Big Nyama is a Model 700 Safari Grade .375 H&H.

Big Nyama loves to shoot 270 grain Barnes X into very tight little groups.

I love Big Nyama as well. These tw are my "Go-to" guns. patriot

I'll be hunting Elk in the Wasatch mountains in Utah the first week in October. I'll be using my custom Mauser in 35 Whelen using 225gr Barnes TSX. It goes an average of 2702fps and I get three shot groups that you can cover with a dime.

Back on mute. Cool

Starting out with a Pronghorn hunt in SE CO the first week in Oct. Will use a Rem 700 Classic in 280 with a factory 165gr Long Range load (discontinued) that shoots into 1-1.5 inch at 300 yds. Backup is a Ruger M77 in 25-06 with 120gr Hornady HP.

Next will be a mid Oct Elk hunt NE of Creede, CO using a Win M70 Fwt Classic in 300WSM and a 168gr Barnes TSX, which groups less than an inch at 300 yds. Backup will be the Rem 700 280 (which used to be my primary elk gun until I got the 300WSM)

Good luck to everyone!

I would be taking my M70 338 win mag with Nikon Monarch 3.5-10x50 scope, shooting 225 gr partitions over IMR 4350. Every elk shot has been bang-flop.

Good hunting to all those with tags this season!!

Since everyone else is chiming in on the when/where, I'll add mine! I'll be searching for cows in 551, about 5 miles west of Sargeants 4th season. For ya'll that know that stretch of highway, we're literally just off 50, you can see it from the road on your left hand side if youre traveling west. Right next to the Monarch Valley Ranch. Most of my hunting this year will be back behind Sargeants, up Lone Branch Creek.

I haven't decided yet. I will probably use my M70 classic in 270 wsm with 140 fail safe's. Although I might use my CZ model 3 in 300 wsm with either 165 tsx's or 180 fail safe's. If I get my cow on the ground early I might switch to my M70 classic 270 win featherweight with 140 partition's or my H&R M340 7x57 to take either my reservation bull tag or my Elk Horn Mountains brow tine tag. I just don't know yet.

Due to my tour in Afghanistan I won't be participating this year and possibly next, but if I were going I would bring my Sako Fiberclass in 375 H&H shooting 260 grain Accubonds. My backup would be a Winchester M70 Classic in 358 Win shooting 225 grain Sierra BT. At least I can dream this year. Lou

280 Rem, in a Rem Mtn Rifle with a Leupold 3x9 on top. 150 gr Nosler Partitions, in Federal Premium. It has killed enough elk now that I don't even have to aim it.... hahaha

Then on a later season I will use my self-built .54 muzzleloader shooting a self-poured round ball in a paper patch powered by FFF Black Powder.

Takin' the Fat Lady to Arizona for elk. We call her the Fat Lady 'cause when she sings, it's over.

Ruger #1 rebarrelled to 9,3x74R (what else???) by Gary Reeder.

So far she's taken 3 whitetails, a bison, and a pronghorn last Saturday.

Our group of three will be hunting the late December Colorado cow elk only season. We're taking a .300 Win Mag with 180gr Sciroccos and two .395 Max's with Macifej's 310gr bullet. The reason for the latter two is to get photos of the damage done for Macifej.
As backups, two rifles. A Rem 700 short-action in .338WSM loaded with Nosler Partition 210gr bullets. The second, for fun, will be my new Rem/Baikal SxS in .45-70 using 350grainers.
