Hello everybody
I've Been reading here alot but really havent posted

but from what I read most of you would put a elk hunt over a deer hunt, Am i Correct?

I live on the Zia Rez. and there are many 350+ elk taken here all the time
So elk are kindof all over the place, and if you every ate for a dance here it was elk

Me and my brothers hunt alot
and I know we are spoiled rotten when it come to hunting (no tags or limits)
and if there was a choice for us on trophy game it will be a Muley Buck

so what you rather hunt Trophy Elk Or Deer?

I think most people on here choose elk because it might be a once in a lifetime hunt for a few. I live in CO and I enjoy elk hunting very much as I can go on a regular basis, and it doesn't cost me an arm and leg to do it. Most people can hunt deer in their own State but not everyone can hunt an elk.

For me flip a coin I enjoy both, but what I really want is a Moose more than anything else.

Lgun, there's probably some folks that have never rabbit hunted, quail hunted, duck hunted, etc. that would rather do those things a couple of times rather than what they do all the time. Having never elk hunted, I would choose that, not as an "either/or" but as an "in addition to" my other hunting pursuits. Good luck on finding your Muley.

I'd rather kill a trophy mule deer buck over an elk any day personally. However, I would eat those words if I ever drew for AZ or UT.

Living in Montana as I do. I enjoy both about the same. With my leggs the way they are after my motorcycle wreck 2 years ago. I don't get much Elk hunting in now days. Knees just won't take it. Deer I can still get to.

Big muledeer for me.
I like elk hunting and have very good luck at finding bulls up to 350, but BIG muledeer over 180 gross are harder to find. Ron

Not drawing my mule deer tag for 5 years has been a huge dissapointment. Elk I just draw cows for the meat and the enjoyment (am I nuts?) of the hunt. But a big muley makes me drool, especially when I see plenty each year I can't shoot. My unit only alloted THREE tags this year.

Humm, I eat elk, deer are now mostly for fun. I've got 2 elk tags this year, cow and bull, so first I'll kill a cow and then hunt for a bull, but I'll probably shoot another cow after a week or so. Mule deer, interesting thought, one area I elk hunt in has few mulies but I have seen some nice bucks there. I've always held my fire on them though as I was elk hunting. I guess I'd rather shoot an elk since that is what I ended up doing.

I prefer to hunt for does or cows & leave the big racks to the headhunters.A big Bull Elk Or a huge Mule Deer Buck just isn't that tasty & I can't eat antlers like the ungulates & rodents.

When I go west I hunt Elk. I can kill all the Deer I want to in Kentucky. This year I have an either sex tag for Elk in Colorado as well as a buck Mule Deer tag. I will conscentrate on the Bull and when I get him I will start Deer hunting. Of course if grandaddy Buck runs over me at anytime I will act accordingly. Good shooting.

I live in Ut where the elk have taken over. Our deer herd is in decline. The buck to doe ratios are all out of whack. It seems like all anyone is interested in is elk elk elk. For me a trophy mule deer would be much more of a once in a lifetime acheivement than a big bull elk. Hell the elk record was broken four or five times in the same year a couple of years ago. Mule deer definitely. DW

I have three nice whitetails and one mulie on the wall.....enough already....I have no elk or moose or caribou.......and for me.....my focus is there.

I did allow myself to add some ducks and a bobcat.....and some African plains game.....but Elk are the target for a while....then moose and then caribou.

Having hunted both extensively, I will tell you that a big desert mulie is by far a better trophy. A desert deer won't compare with his northern counterpart. There is a big difference in habitat that makes the desert version a trophy worthy of pursuit. Elk & Mountain mulie terrain is much easier to stalk in.
