I live just west of Boulder....its a very odd story. This has been the wettest year I can remember, the high country is still very green. We came upon fresh bear scat and tracks at 9k ft this week while looking for elk. I think whoever wrote the article has only half a clue to what is going on with the bears.

If you read this article it is very evident the author is an idiot. He has an agenda which sounds like it is "Global Warming" based, I don't recall a drought in Colorado this year no matter who you quote and what his title is no drought in Colorado. I got 2 cuttings of hay this year from my place and that is a first since I've owned the property.
As Taylorce indicated since the Boulder libs have voted out our spring bear hunts our population of bears has skyrocketed and so has the incidents with problem bears. Now instead of issueing tags to hunters (which generates income) to harvest bears and keep them out of neighborhoods we are paying Division of Wildlife personnel to eliminate bears or a subcontractor to do so.
This stuff pisses me off to no end we put items on the ballot that should be wildlife management issues decided by educated professionals instead tree huggers and bunny lovers get to dictate what and when we get to hunt by a vote. When our spring bear hunt was voted out the aforementioned tree huggers went on a rampant campaign one ad showing a mother bear with cubs and asking "do you want them to die?" "if you don't want them to be slaughtered vote against prop. whatever". There were no facts in their campaign, it has been illegal to kill a cub or a mother with cubs or a sow with enlarged mammaries forever. I asked the DOW about this and wanted them to make a public statement to the effect and they told me their hands were tied and they "legally" couldn't make a stand or even suggest a management plan because it was a ballot issue and they are state employees and can't get involved.
What a crock of shit.
