The second was a 2 for 1 special. Wink As I get plenty of love and sugar from my wife and am happily monogamous, I just smiled and passed. The fact that one of them was better than two bills and had a horrific weave didn't much play a part in my decision...Really! wave

Boy was I shocked - I hadn't checked this thread for a awhile and was amazed at the controversy this has stirred up. I was wondering when someone would shoot an email off to Josh at Eastern Ridge. I appreciate all the comments posted by other hunters, but frankly I do take offense to a couple of them.

I am 50 years old and have been hunting since I was around 12. I consider myself a conscientious hunter. I have worked in the nuclear power industry for over 30 years so I am by no means rich. I work hard to save enough money so I can enjoy a hunting vacation at least once a year. So if paying hard earn money for a product/service and then complaining when I do not get the service as promised makes me a spoiled rich hunter, then yes I guess I am just that.

For all you that criticized me for complaining, let me ask you this. Say you hear about this top notch restaurant that has great food and service. You decide you want to go to this restaurant for a steak dinner and then that restaurant says you have to pay 3 months in advance for that steak which you do. Then 3 months later you travel across the country to that restaurant and to enjoy that prepaid steak. When you finally get to that restaurant your waiter is terrible and when that steak is finally brought to you, it is a cheap cut of tough meat. Then when you leave the restaurant , the manager complains loud enough about the tip you left that other customers over it. (Hey Josh - you can't deny this one as I talked to Orville at the airport before our flights home.) Don't you think you would complain and expect some kind of reimbursement of your hard earned money? Well this is basically what happened with our week at Eastern Ridge. We were lead to believe that we paid for a hunt with certain amenities and services, and we were not provided with an acceptable level of service. When we asked for some sort of reimbursement for the inferior product, all we got were nasty and threatening emails. Bottom line is I paid $400/day, and I did not receive a service equal to that amount so yes, I am pissed off.

When I go hunting out here in AZ with my boys and friends, my 3 priorities are hunting hard, eating lots of good hot food, and enjoying the company of my fellow hunters around the camp fire over some cold beers. When I pay an outfitter for a week of hunting including room/meals I expect basically the same. I also expect that the outfitter to be hard working and conscientious outfitter that prides himself in providing a high level of customer service to his clients. In my opinion, Eastern Ridge was far from this type of outfitter. Josh says that I could have went along to track the wounded bear. That is so untrue. We were told that only 2 of us could go - the person who shot the bear and 1 other. My friend Bob L. shot the bear and his adult son wanted to go with his dad. I wanted to go, but I was in no position to say I should go instead of Bob's son. If I was allowed to go, I would have insisted that we track that bear all day if need be. Josh also claims that he sent one of his camp staff out for more food supplies (eggs/milk/soda). If this was the case then how come the last 3 days, no eggs were served for breakfast. This additional food must have been stashed away in the staff's cabin cause none of us ever saw it.

I informed Josh that I felt obligated to file a complaint with the Maine Game and Fish and the Passamaquoddy Warden Service about his lack of effort in recovering a seriously wounded bear. He got all bent out of shape threatening to also turn one of my group in for catching an illegal fish. Yea, Bob N. mistook a salmon for a brown trout as did Josh. Luke, the other guide was the one that said it was a salmon. But this was after Josh was the one to kill the fish by beating its head against a bucket. When I called the Passamaquoddy Warden Service, I voiced my complaint to Warden S. Francis who informed me that this was not the first complaint against Eastern Ridge. He also informed me that the Passamaquoddy Tribe was very concerned about the excessive number of unrecovered wounded bears by Eastern Ridge this year.

You know I am an easy going guy, and it takes a lot to get me bent out of shape. I was certain that a reasonable solution could be reached with Eastern Ridge, but that was not the case. Josh was not the least bit concerned that we had a problem with the service provided or was he even willing to come to some sort of resolution. I told Josh that there is a saying when it comes to providing a high level of customer service - a satisfied customer will tell 2 people while a unsatisfied customer will tell 20. I told Josh that it was safe to say I will tell 200. And by the number of hits on this thread and on postings on other website forums, I think I have more than covered that 200. This does not count the 11 emails I have received from other hunters looking for a Maine outfitter requesting details of the service provided by Eastern Ridge.

I think that this thread has been beaten like a dead horse enough now so this will be the last post I make to it. If anyone wants to email me directly with a question or comment, please feel free to do so.

I only hope that Josh / Eastern Ridge Adventures has taken learned something from this and applies it to improving his operation in the future.

And thanks to everyone that read my posting and provided comments - whether they were supportive or critical of me.
Good Hunting to everyone.

Well, I can see I might be a bit late to this discussion, however better late than never. Ed Heckman is ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!! I’ve hunted with Josh at Eastern Ridge Adventures in the fall of 2008. To put it simply, Josh is a con man. Everything he promised was a lie. Everything he offered was TERRIBLE. Not to mention I didn’t see any game at all. My hunt was exactly how Ed Heckman’s was but only worse. Like I said, I didn’t see anything at all. Anyone who is considering hunting with Josh at Eastern Ridge Adventures, DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. You’ll be happy you took our advice! Happy hunting!

I'm with KStephens. Did they go there to hunt bear or eat lobsters.
And too,the sports ought to at least be able to shoot their rifles when they show up. Two shots at a bear from a stand and he fucked 'em both up. Outfitter should have charged him double. stir

Crazyhorseconsulting, Stillbeeman & OlBiker,
The three of you guys look so sexy with Eastern Ridge Adventures man seed dripping off your chins. I'm sorry if Josh is your friend and that the truth hurts. I posted here so someone else won't make the same mistake we did. I won't bother coming back to this web site to argue my point because its seems that you fagots can't deal with the truth!

First off you ignorant little shit, \the only thing I know about Josh Rhodes and his outfit is from the emails he sends me from time to time, I have never had any dealings with the man you little cunt.

The only thing I was getting at was the fact that many new members go back thru the archives and dredge up old posts that have died merely to stir up shit.

You little spineless twat, if you have a problem with the hunt you went on, grow enough back bone and balls to start your own post about it, don't go find someone else's to lean on for support you fucking idiot.

One last thing, does that P in AndyP stand for Pussy?

If I offened anyone other than AndyPiss, I do apologise, my only intention was to let it know what kind of POS it is/was.

I am on Josh Rhode's mailing list and get emails from time to time, that in no way translates out to having any real knowledge as to how he runs his operation or whether he is on the up and up.

I just think if a person has a complaint against an outfitter, including me, be a man about it and start your own thread and stick to the details.

I've never heard of Ed nor Josh nor, thank goodness, of Andy the Pussy. However, I've worked as a bait boy on a head boat and as a fishing guide and I've had the misfortune to be in hunting camps a couple of times with folks like I perceive Ed to be.
While Josh may not be as pure as he professes, he did put them on the bears. Because Ed's crew couldn't take advantage of the opportunities probably is the real cause of Ed's whining. Ed sounds like a born again whiner whose idea of "roughing it" means no mints on the pillow at night. Andy the Pussy is beneath comtempt.

That guy who wounded the bear is lucky Josh didn't say, "Well, your hunt is done."

More and more outfitters are doing that. You wound an animal, your hunt is done.

I hunted with Eastern Ridge on Spring Bear Hunt in May 09. I enjoyed my hunt. I killed a 100 pound bear. Small, yes, but that was my choice. The weather conditions meant hard hunting and I choose to take small over the possibility of going home empty handed. My husband killed a bear on the last day of the hunt that was over two hundred pounds and it had a beautiful white v on its neck. The other two hunters in camp both saw bear. One saw multiple bears, but he missed. Josh was hospitable, and we both enjoyed our hunt. We met some guys in the airport that had hunted in Canada same week, and none of them had killed a bear. Was a hard hunting week due to the weather.

Same to you, jsl. I know only too well what you mean about people from your state being an embarassment. For years I hung my head every time someone even mentioned the name Ted Kennedy... Wink

Looks like that Holiday twit has reinvented him(her)self as AndyP(as in pussy).
Oh well, I've never shot a black bear. Not a bear of any sort. Never had the desire but how could you tell a 100# cub from somebody's lab dog? Would the lab be bigger?

Perhaps you could post some pictures of the camp, the guide, yourself, husband and of course, the bears you shot.
