Last night (DVR) on the Best of the West hunting show on the outdoor channel, they were hunting freerange Ornx in West Texas.
Any idea who guides for these Free Range animals in Texas.
They did not have any guide info on the show.
Thanks,
W.

I don't think that there are any "Free Range' Oryx/Gemsbuck in Texas, but they do have hunting for them in New Mexico I believ.

I know they've drifted over onto the military land (Ft. Bliss maybe) adjacent to the White Sands Missile Range, but I'm not sure if any exist on private land where they could be hunted legally in Texas as a free range exotic.

If they are on TX soil, not high fenced and exotic - that qualifies them as free range exotic.
Plenty of places around TX have 'free range exotic', albeit, not all oryx. Mostly axis deer.

I have hunted them on the White Sands Missle Range on a special draw hunt. There are some that have gotten of the missle range. I have not heard of any "free range" oryx in Texas. They are in NM mostly.

I've seen several in TX east of El Paso, as far out as Dell City. Don't know who is outfitting for them though.

We hunt them on the WSMR (once in a lifetime permit) and off the base on private property (can draw again). Can be a long range affair as they've gotten quite keen. Tags are $1,600+

I was running an AKC retriever hunt test at Bosque del Apache (off the NW corner of the missile range) talking to one of the Fish and Wildlife biologists there. He told me the oryx had started ranging clear into Texas. They do follow along the Rio Grande up north at least as far as Socorro. Others at the hunt test said they knew of landowners in Texas shooting them. They do move around down there.

Well this was the response I got from Best of the West Website.

We were hunting a ranch that doesn't want us to publisize where we were. You can do a self guided hunt on the Missle Range if you would like.

That answer sounds a bit fishy to me. Most outfitters/ranches welcome free publicity.

Unless this took place on a ranch that didn't offer commercially-available hunts, I don't see the reasoning for the anonymity.

The Crown X ranch has them. It's located in the Davis Mountains. It's 36K acres and high fenced on 3 sides. The mountain range on the remaining side prevents all the animals except for the goats from leaving - thus it is considered free range. has cape buffalo and other stuff as well.
