OK guys, has everyone flexed their Internet muscles enough yet? The tone of posts has taken a sharp downhill turn lately. A few guys can't post a full sentence without swearing, some quite creatively. Keep in mind that lots of people who aren't as tough as you also read here. If you disagree, ignore it. If you feel the need to respond, keep it clean. A forceful answer that is worded well carries a lot more impact than a personal name-calling brawl.

I know other guys are just as tired of it as I am. I also know that the handful of offenders will continue on with their ways. But for those normally good posters who get drug down into these brawls, try to not let it get to you. Make your point without resorting to referring to every piece of anatomy and sexual act that you can dream up.

Don't take advantage of Saeed's policies here, show some sort of respect.

Hey Cold Bore,
I #%$?!#@%$&*_+@#$$%?!agree! Reading some of these f#@!$%& posts is like trying to find a legitimate word amongst alot of garble. Some may scream freedom of speech--and they would be correct. Maybe the rest of us should simply refrain from any sort of reply to a post that contains language that is offensive to us. It is odd indeed--given the PC line of "offensive" being wrong--that in some areas people purposely use less than acceptable language in an effort to communicate and offend. I say let them write whatever they want to write. If or when no one answers their posts, then they will have the choice of 1) retiring to a less classy bulletin board, 2) not getting responses, or 3) cleaning up their act a bit. We can't legislate morality any more than the government can, but we can purposely and quietly exclude those who offend us. That's my 2 cents worth.

I learned a long time ago that in addition to providing a good source for the exchange of ideas and information, internet message boards also provide a place for men who live under the shrewish rule of hormonally imbalanced domineering wives to feign authoritativeness.

See them for what they are and you'll feel more pity than contempt...

I don't normally reply to the "flaming war" posts as I don't understand why people just can't be human to each other. If you disagree fine, say it, you have that right, but my understanding is that right ends with libel and the threat of violence. This is ridiculous to threaten people, to call people all sorts of names or what ever because you DON'T LIKE THE SAME SCOPES! This is absolutely childish and from both ends of the spectrum, the Buell camp and the Atkinson camp. We are not in elementry school anymore. Just because something is typed on a computer screen does not make them any less responsible for the words they speak. They may not be responsible to a government but they will be held accountable to someone someday.

All, I am trying to say is to be civil, it's really not that hard.

I live with one of them hormonally imbalanced shrew type beings but that never made me feel like getting on here and acting like an ass. Somebody asks a question either seeking an answer or to stimulate interesting conversation and ends up getting neither. Sad waste of space and time.

I think most of the reason Saeed started this forum was for the entertainment value of watching Americans argue and fight. [Big Grin]
You have to admit it can get pretty entertaining, but it's also a testament to the quality of the majority of people here. Even with no censorship this forum has class and any negatives are far overshadowed by the good information.
I really don't care for other hunting/shooting forums because of the censorship and restraints imposed by heavy handed Bible thumping moderators.
Look at the discussions that occur here and see the diversity of opinions and experiences that are expressed. It's really wonderful when you think about it.

Thank you for the forum Saeed [Smile]

Wrong Buell. Read my post again. I may disagree, but I don't go to the depths that a lot do lately. I didn't say that we all needed to kiss & hug each other.

Now if we were to research *your* posts, I think you'd have a hard time defending your statement above. (Or will you delete it like the one where you made a reference about my time on this forum, only to be proven wrong?).

Yes, you have been on this forum for not much time and you want to run the show and tell people what they should say. Its not your place to tell me I should be nicer, or anyone for that matter. Saeed is the only one who has that power and he has expressed to me personally, and everyone else on this forum he will not be censoring, deleting, or condeming publicly anything anyone says. If you can't handle that take a hike.

I'll be dammed before I let some no name hypocrite on here tell me how to post my opinions. If Saeed ever asked me to keep it down I would have no second thoughts about doing so. You have no power on this board so deal with it.

I am an asshole to people who are assholes and I have never said I wasn't. I cuss at people religously and if you don't like what I write put me on your ignore list so you don't have to read what I post. Simple.

Now get over yourself and do something useful besides chastising me for posts you dont like...

Well... I'll just quote something I read on the wall of a restroom stall in my dormitory when I was in college (centuries ago) while I was occupying said stall briefly.

"Profanity is the literary crutch of an illiterate motherfucker."

One of those "hmmmmmmmmm" moments, I thought.

Now... I don't write on stalls, walls, cars, sidewalks, or whatever... but I have to admit, I do read what others write. Most of the time it's clear that said writers have nothing to say and can't spell it when they try -- but, every great now and then, someone comes along and writes something that gives one a moment for pause.

I've been exiled to St. Louis for the duration of this week, and in one of the offices there is one of those "prints" -- the kind that has some hopefully-inspiring bit of perspective on life for others to read and perhaps, as a result, to live their lives accordingly.

I'm "here" and the print is "there" (in the outer office, requiring a whole LOT of security-related button-punching to deal with, and I'm not going to mess with it right at the moment)... but, I stood there the other night, reading it, and really liked it.

To paraphrase, it's something along the lines of "be nice to those who are weak and incompetent, be understanding of those who are mean and lack compassion, be tolerant of those who are slow and unsure"... et cetera and so forth... "because you will have been at least one or more of these at some time in your life."

Sure struck me between the eyes. I like things that are intelligent, thought-provoking, and inspire contemplation. I'm going to write it down before the week is over and save it where I can see it regularly.

I don't know how many of you believe in God, but I do... and I think every so often, at just the right time in a person's life, He puts things in front of us to make us think.

Ciao.

Russ

I agree. Personally, I'd be in a lot better mood most of the time if I could kill something or someone at least once a month. Waiting for various "hunting seasons" sucks dog peckers.

I did write it down, then found it on the Internet for $159. It is a "Successories" print -- one of those inspirational/motivational prints to, I presume, encourage maximum output from members of an organization's workforce. It shows a picture of, I'm presuming again, a vixen and her kitten. Very touching photograph. Here is the caption.

 -

The Essence of Compassion

"Resolve to be tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant with the weak and wrong...because sometime in your life you will have been all of these."

I read this over and over and over again. A worthy goal, I feel, toward which to strive.

It's been way too long of a day for me to make an inciteful post, but I'll give it a go.

I've also noticed the decline lately. I think it's based on a few things.

There has been some new blood coming into the site, which is a good thing, but, the new folks don't know the threads that have been posted ad naseum, and they also don't know about the personalities of the different posters, including inside jokes, et al.

To a large extent, it seems that new threads in general are slow coming, so I guess folks to keep the board moving feel they just have to post something, no matter how trivial, degrading or pointless.

As Saeed has said many times, we're all big boys and girls, and if one of us wishes to make a fool of ourselves, we are free to do it w/o anything being edited or deleted. So, if one wishes to make themselves come across as a drunken foul mouthed fool, have at it.

The real problem has been folks willingness to get embroiled in arguments, get heated, and post things they really wouldn't iffn they were a bit more relaxed and cool headed. This is not to say that the fools and jerks shouldn't be ridden mercilessly [Razz] , they should, but in a gentlemanly manor [Wink]

Remember that bit about wresingly with pigs in the mud, but you and the pig get dirty, but only the pig enjoys it. So, stay outside the pen, take your shots from a distance [Big Grin] and stay clean.

People who do talk back radio learnt a long time ago what gets the ratings.

These forums are the same. It is the "hot" threads that get the big run including threads started about the threads in question.

I continue to be amazed that those who so often complain also seem to read such threads and read them all the way through them.

Quite often people will get all abusive when they think they have right and the forum members on their side.

I am a new guy here and I will admit to being surprised by the lack of ability some of the posters have to express themselves without swearing or using profanity. I have worked all over the world and have heard all this stuff before, in more languages than I can remember, but it still bothers me to see it in print. When something is written, prior thought is needed so these things don't just 'pop out'. They are deliberate. Perhaps too much time watching our newest crop of comedians, I don't know

Remember though that profanity and cussing tells us all alot more about the person writing the post than the person it is meant to attack.
Most of these guys wouldn't have the nerve to say it to someones face, dispite the macho image they hold of themselves.

One more question though, 'Why can't you use matchkings on big game'? [Big Grin]
