I don't have an exact body count, but I have killed somewhere around 100+/- with my old Ruger M77 Ultralite 270. This gun has become a safe queen, but I will never part with it.

Wow, this thread has been interesting and informative to me. I was surprised that more people didn't list the 30-30 as what they actually killed more deer with. I know it's not the best deer rifle, and I rarely hunt with mine now, but I did think it would show up more. I'll try to tally up the results and post the findings. Thanks for everyone's input. For a very good friend of mine, he's killed six, SIX (!) Deer in the past two years on his motorcycles! Four this year alone...plus a buzzard that was feeding on one of the carcasses he hit a week earlier.

They were out of season and I'm beginning to think he's poaching them the hard way...

(PS: He's fine, but his insurance company is really throwing fits! Big Grin)

Regards,

Robert

Some super funny responses! dancing But to get serious, archery equipment from little recurves to compounds. Over 225. Then muzzle loaders from .45 to .54. (Ohio and PA.) Then a few with the 6.5 X 55 Swede and a few with a .280. A couple with the single shot pistols, 7R and 7-08. The rest with revolvers from .44 to 45-70. Over 360 deer total, lost count a while back, But now I start with the bow and then revolvers. I get what I need and give away and never get to the muzzle loaders anymore.
Since I am a meat hunter, not looking for antlers, my seasons are short. I give bucks away, don't like the meat. If I can't give any more meat away, the buck will walk.
My interest is when the backstraps hit the grill! Big Grin

The M99F .358 Win. by far. Most of my deer hunting has been in Vermont where the bear season is open during all of the deer season. In fact the bear season there used to open on 4/1 and end on 12/31!

With the 99 in .358 I feel ready for all woods hunting.

Get the 'power' or optic that your eye likes instead of what someone else says.

When we go to the doctor they ask us what lens we like!

Do that with your optics.

223, 30-06 and 7x57. I got talked into making an effort to remove all deer off this huge ranch as they were starving, sick runts and were pre disposed to having antlers of no more than 6 points. I used an AR15 carbine and the old 55 grain military round which worked fine on over 250 deer, none of which weighed as much as 80 pounds.

.243 second followed closely by the 06 with the 6.5 x 55 gaining ground. Throw several in for the .270 wsm and .223 for good measure.

Though I don't hunt that much with it now, I've taken more deer through the years with my Marlin 30-30.

30-30 by far, followed by 30-06 and then .270 Win.

Numerous deer and 2 black bear with my custom Mauser Mark X .358 Win.

#2 Marlin 336 in .35 Rem-this gun had peep sights and I used it to still hunt especially in bad weather.

As you can see I am a big fan of .35 calibers!
