I personally subscribe to the thought that for every cartridge/rifle combo out there there is a shooter looking for just that combo. Not everybody likes the 700 Nitro, not everyone likes the 22 Short. Somewhere in the middle most of us find a combo we like or several combos we like. So my answer to your question is yes, talk of getting rid of any cartridge/rifle combos is harmful to the sport, that is the "just right" combo for someone, somewhere, for some purpose. ------------------

Getting back to the original question; I don't think that the anti-hunting/anti-gun people can care less. First of all they couldn't tell the difference between one cartridge and another and secondly it's not the issue of *what* cartridge but the issue of hunting/shooting as such that's at stake in that discussion.
