Watching Fox news last night, they stated that the only judges that are scheduled to retire are the 3 who were on the minority of the vote. They said that the ruling is very safe even if bam bam gets
elected.

There has not been any evidence that allowing people to carry a concealed weapon is going to make anybody safer... I wanted to make sure that local communities were recognized as having a right to regulate firearms. The notion that somehow local jurisdictions can’t initiate gun laws isn’t born out by our Constitution.†—Barack Hussein Obama on “thoughtful†adulteration of our Constitution.

Hey, Obama! I'm not a bitter SOB! I just want my Constitutional rights. Now, I've got 'em. Too bad ya don't understand that they're your rights too but then again, you're a lawyer & skew facts according to what you want.

Obama said in the debate last spring in Wisconsin that as a Constitutional lawyer he believed the Second Amendment confers an individual right. He reiterated that identical postition again today. Vote against him because he's skinny, vote against him because he was born in Hawaii, vote against him because he was against invading Iraq if you wish, but voting against him because of his position on the Second Amendment is simply wallowing in ignorance.
What?
I'm with Bob, you are misguided at the very least. Wrong at the worst.
Obama is against gun ownership, period.

quote:
His Democratic rival, Obama, issued a more carefully worded statement apparently aimed at both moderate voters and his liberal base. The statement from Obama, who has long said local governments should be able to regulate guns, did not specifically say whether Obama agreed with overturning the specific D.C. ban. But he said Thursday's ruling "will provide much-needed guidance to local jurisdictions across the country."

"I have always believed that the Second Amendment protects the right of individuals to bear arms, but I also identify with the need for crime-ravaged communities to save their children from the violence that plagues our streets through commonsense, effective safety measures," Obama said.

Obama said his view was supported by the court's ruling that the Constitution does not permit "the absolute prohibition of handguns." That language "reinforces that if we act responsibly, we can both protect the constitutional right to bear arms and keep our communities and our children safe," Obama said.

The SCOTUS decision may have some interesting fall out ! Georgia has just passed a law extending areas where permit holders may carry their guns. That would include places like public transportation and state parks. clap

Even though the overall vote was 5-4, even in Stevens dissent (joined by all the other dissenters), he opens by saying the following:

quote:
The question presented by this case is not whether the Second Amendment protects a “collective right†or an “individual right.†Surely it protects a right that can be
enforced by individuals. But a conclusion that the Second Amendment protects an individual right does not tell us anything about the scope of that right.

So the individual right was 9-0 (according to Stevens).

Breyer's dissent opens with the following (also joined by the other dissenters):

quote:
We must decide whether a District of Columbia law that
prohibits the possession of handguns in the home violates
the Second Amendment. The majority, relying upon its
view that the Second Amendment seeks to protect a right
of personal self-defense, holds that this law violates that
Amendment. In my view, it does not.

His arguments confusing to say the least and sure sounds like he doesn't like the right and is going out of his way to limit it.

Sorry, Stonecreek, I don’t buy your logic—sorry—argument.
I have to call it an argument, because I can’t call it logic.

If I vote against him because he's skinny, I’m prejudice against skinny people.
(I have many friends that are skinny)
If I vote against him because he was born in Hawaii, I’m prejudice against Hawaiians.
(I have several friends born in Hawaii)
If I vote against him because he was against invading Iraq, I’m prejudiced against fools.
(I have a few friends that are fools. What can I say? It’s fun to torment them!!)

HOWEVER, voting against Obama because he is against our constitution is the only reason that makes any sense.

ACLU lawyers also claim to be Constitutional lawyers…
