The Wall Street Journal today has a story on a ballot measure to outlaw hunting within enclosures. Made the front page and a lot of ink is devoted to it. Apparently a hunter who disapproves got enough votes to get this on the ballot.

I have long said ballot measures are our greatest threat. The problems with voter propositions are many, not the least of which is while all voters have one vote, not all are equally affected by the outcome. Nor are they equally informed.

I read that article as well this morning. I am all for democracy and ballots but I wonder if the average person thinks we are talking about hunting in a 1 acre enclosure versus a 2000 acre area.

Personally, I do not care to hunt on game farms but it is private property and they should be able to be involved in commerce. Plus it provides jobs and income to the rural areas and farmers.

I hunted a friends 300 acre ranch this weekend that is surrounded by large (5000 acre) high-fenced ranches making his, little, 320 acres high fenced.
What do you do now, tell him he can not hunt his own ranch???

To each his own. If hunters get their kicks hunting in enclosed areas (no matter how big or small), knock yoursleves out. There should be no legislation that disallows this.
