Just goes to show that in some cases, you are GUILTY until proven innocent.

I know you may have meant that as sarcasm but in issues of game law, that is EXACTLY what it is - you have to prove your innocence not the other way around.

No sarcasm from me. If the story is true, as told by Valentine, then the CO is a prick and she is a dumb_ss for not fighting it. I won't deny that when it comes to game laws one may be "guilty" until proven otherwise, which is BS, but not fully investigating the cow moose's broken ankle thoroughly by Game and Fish means that they wrote a citation based on speculation. Therefore, the CO is a prick and simply doing what a lot of hot shot law enforcement officers do, which is abuse authority b/c they have a "do whatever I want and get away with it" badge.

The hunter that went to BC with me is a Lt. at our police dept. and we had hours of discussions regarding this type of thing.

I ran into a young, early 20s CO in Wyoming back in 1995 and he was just itching to write a citation or arrest someone in our group of 30 guys. Genuine prick. He followed us for 5 days everywhere we went while we were antelope hunting. We watched him set up a mulie decoy about 150 yards of a main road, then drive off almost a mile away to watch. From our vantage point, he could not see us while setting up the decoy. When he got to his observation point, he saw us at the top of the hill, and we had been there all morning.

He drove back down the road, and up to our location, and said that we "may just get arrested for interfering with his job." One of the anesthesiologists in our group just about told him to Fck off, that we had been there and watched him the whole time, that it wasn't our problem that he couldn't see us when setting up the decoy.

His boss showed up sometime later and told him to cool it. They took the decoy elsewhere.

It's no secret that when you put some individuals in a position of power, they will abuse it.

It's also no secret that in ANY group of people one will be "the best" and one will be "the worst". Doesn't matter if we're talking doctors, garbage men or COs.

There are usually three sides to every story, one side, the other side and the truth, which mostly ends up being somewhere between the two. I don't suspect we'll ever know the other side of the story, nor the truth, but for $100 fine (advertising investment?) I suspect that Brenda Valentine will end up with a big return from hits on her website.

I think she is getting a shitty deal here, even if the cause of the cows broken leg was due to her bullet passing through the bull and then hitting the cow.

I think the group, her and the guides did the right thing by killing the wounded cow and then recovering all the meat, to donate to charity, reporting the incident etc...

But hunters want to shit all over one of their own. I don't get it. To me, it is amazing how petty and jealous some of the comments are. A lot of guys are bitter thinking she got away with something.

Jeez... Roll Eyes

That is why I covered this to begin with by starting out by writing this:

Just an opinion here, and I had never heard of this woman.

Regardless of how many want to crucify her for what happened, or want to lay all the blame at the feet of the Alaska Dept. of Game & Fish, or how bad the wolves are

My guess is that to get things resolved, the lady paying the $100.00 fine probably kept the guide from losing her license.

In reality, the ticket should have went to whomever killed the cow, regardless of her injuries, or their reason for doing such.

I do go along with the person that posted that we are so quick to eat our own, whether they are at fault or not.

Unfortunatly, without a proper necropsy, the truth of how the animal sustained it's injury will never be known.
