Check out this monster gator taken in Florida by Ed Yates.

This is not trick photography. This is the real deal and that gator is a slob. There are gator hunts that can be done in the daytime with a rifle, just like a croc in Africa.
And another kind of hunt that's done at night with a harpoon, bow, or crossbow. I like the crossbow hunt because you stalk your gator. There's a line attached to the bolt and I've seen them launch like a tarpon. Then you ease them up to the boat and thump them with a bangstick.
It's a fun hunt and different.

Not so sure.
The curve of the tire takes up some of the shadow length and it is still nearly 2X the man's shadow.
If he's 5' 10'' or so with the Gator forward of him toward the lens may very well be a 12 1/2 footer.

You're right about the shadows. They had Mr. Yates stand back a little to show off the gator's size. But he's a for real 12 and 1/2 footer.

Even if Mr. Yates was beside the gator, his head would be about even with the front of the hind leg. And look at the head in relation to the bucket. That animal is huge.

The gentleman is standing a good 4 or 5 feet behind the gator. Trying to make it larger than it really is. Its a great gator but I don't know if it would go 12 1/2 ft. Maybe 10.
I work around loaders for a living and I would guess that bucket isn't more than 10 feet off the ground.

Its a great trophy but why do people have to try and make it more than it is. They do it around here with elk and deer heads, get back behind the animal so it looks bigger. Be proud of what you shot.

Oh well just my 2 cents worth.

Here is a picture of a gator my wife shot on our place on the coast of Texas. It measured exactly tweleve feet. Notice she is standing beside the gator and not five or six feet behind. Also about a foot or so of the tail is still on the ground.

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......
